No textbooks to buy! Material is clearly outlined, 5 different philosophers and 5 tests. If you pay attention you'll get an A like I did. You have to try to fail this course. Let's put it this way I read 1 of the 5 texts for the class. Just ask questions. Very down to earth guy, inspiring. Sadly he's retiring after this upcoming fall semester.

For those who are wondering whether they should take his class or not, read this before you decide to. If you struggle with reading comprehension, are a bad test taker, do not have time to do a lot of reading, or have difficulty focusing, do not take his class. The bulk of the class is reading at a fairly high level and tests.

He is very smart and knows what he is talking about, but is very intimidating. When grading papers remarks are often very frank, non-professional, and do not make a student want to speak up and ask for assistance on how they can improve. If you would like to go in-depth on the topic of Ethics, then take him, you will learn, but be cautious.

TERRIBLE PROFESSOR! Not specific in what he wants and even if you think you're right he will make sure to tell you you're wrong. Doesn't go over or review anything just reads from the textbook, makes a bunch of useless analysis, and assumes everyone should get a 100 on the test for that. NEVER TAKE HIM. DO NOT DO IT

Very monotone in voice so he can be a chore to deal with in the morning. Very tough on tests because nobody knows what he truly wants from you content-wise. Seems incredibly mean on the surface, but not really; He just comes off that way. He definitely knows what he's talking about and loves metaphysics so get ready for a lot of it.

professor manning is an incredibly smart man, yes he is a little tough but you signed up for a philosophy class...kind of a given. His tests are fair if you DO THE WORK. He really is a good guy but can come off as a jerk if you don't understand his sense of humor. you will learn a lot about life in this course, take it

Absolute worst professor I have ever had. His tests are confusing and he is a very harsh grader and always has awful comments to make the students feel terrible. He has a gigantic ego and he speaks down to everyone in the class. Out of a class of 35 by the 3rd month there were only 10 students left.

Prof Manning made us work. but I learned alot. he was right, my teachers hadnt prepared us for collge, and manning told us how to read and study. the course was really interesting and manning made us think very hard. the tests were easy, just write what the book says, and manning already explained what the book said!

for who ever says its an easy A its not. My first day of classes with him he told us its almost impossible to get anything higher than B - because anything exceeding that would be nearing perfection? Was told that since we were only going to Suffolk and most of us were just going to college to please mommy and daddy and would only be plumbers, that we weren't worth the time and effort he put forth in his classes at St. Joes. Has a big head and is ready to prove you wrong. Was not as nice as the other comments read. I wouldn't recommend him.

He makes this class so easy.He reads the book for you,explains everything to the fullest. There are 3 tests and a final,drops the lowest grade,tests are open book open note and he tells you what the test will be.If you take good notes which will not be hard in this class you will do great. Sometimes he talks a little fast but he repeats everything.
