I am very bad at math, so I struggled with this class, but he was always there whenever I needed to drop by, and he was so willing to help. He really cares about his students. If you don't do the optional homework, you will probably have a hard time in class. Just pay attention and do the homework.

Comment:

Cates is a cool guy and is genuinely sweet, he just carries a lot of sass. The only thing that goes toward your grade in his class is your exams, so if you're not a good test taker, his class is not for you. His teaching style doesn't go outside of you watching him sole problems the whole class and he goes fast without checking comprehension.

Mr. Cates is a very nice professor, but be ready for pop quizzes. He is not rude at all, but I do not like that doctor's notes when someone is too sick to get out of bed are not accepted as excuses for not attending class. Basically, if you do your homework correctly, you get an A on quizzes. I had to drop because of a heavy courseload.

Professor Cates is a terrible teacher. He is rude, sassy and can not convey his math knowledge onto his students effectively. This man literally finds his purpose for getting up in the morning by taking off unnecessary points on tests. Do not take this class unless you want to deal with unneeded sass and undeserved bad grades.

Absolutely amazing teacher. I struggled through math my whole life but he was able to make it easy and enjoyable. And his tests are often identicle to the problems on the homework

I wouldn't recommend him. His lectures are hard to understand, the only way you can get help is going to office hours. Only grades are tests and quizes over homework, if you want an A you must attend EVERY SINGLE CLASS PERIOD

I went to his office a lot for help and he was always there and stayed for as long as it took. He wants you to understand the methods. Gives extra bonus points for a 70% or high on exams. Must show ALL WORK no matter how easy the problem. Very nice and kind. Highly recommend him!

He really is super easy. I can't tell if he's being condescending or not, idk. He gives extra points if you pass the exams. Make sure you round right though. I learned the hard way and bombed a test horribly because my answer was off by a hundredth of a point on several problems. Nice guy though.

Has a strange voice, kind of like Mr. Garrison from South Park, but you get use to it farely fast. Very good teacher, goes fast, but always willing to clearify if you need it and very nice. Can always go to office hours to check answers or get extra help.

He's a very sweet teacher and will explain anything any number of times. Can go fast but will slow down if asked. Very helpful and a super easy class. I breezed through it. Study a little before the tests and your made! Gives bonus points for simple things. I highly recommend him if you aren't a good math person like me!

Extremely easy class. I made an A. His final also replaces your lowest test grade. He adds extra points to your test if you improved from the last one. Homework is not required. TAKE CATES IF YOU CAN! He is straightforward with his teaching and is very helpful if you don't understand.

Mr. Cates will explain something until everyone gets it even if he has to repeat it several times. Quizzes are numerous but easy as they come straight from your homework. Homework is normally pretty simple. Will find the most random things to take a point or two away from a test question.
