Comment:
This prof assigns a LOT of reading for this class, and lectures are disorganized. There are three essays over the readings, and either a term paper topic of your choice or her take-home final exam. I suggest doing the term paper: you can pick your topic and work on it during the semester instead of having two weeks during finals for the take-home.

Professor Rasmussen doesn't know how to lecture. She assigns you a lot to readING but doesn't bother herself to teach anything. The WORST PROFESSOR OF UH. 2 exams and one paper, but the exams are so irrelevant that it's hard to pass it. If you really care about your GPA AND are A student do not take her class. She doesn't give any lecture.

She provides ZERO information online. Not even the syllabus. 100% of info, paperwork, assignments, etc. is given in class. If you miss it, you have to track down the TA. 3 grades total for entire semester. We read 5 textbooks for this class. 4 of which you will read in their entirety. LOTS OF READING.

She makes it clear that she does not use computers unless it's completely necessary, so all information will ONLY be accessible by going to class or communicating with the TA. We had 5 books for this class, and she assigns readings every single week from several, if not all of the books. Only 3 grades for entire semester, so you must pass.

If writing isn't your strong suit I suggest staying away from this class. It's very interesting and Professor Rasmussen is very knowledgeable, but all papers were given a week in advance, and the final take-home quiz was 12 pages with only 7 days to complete.

Wonderful Professor, she is a hidden gem. I was lucky enough to take a small seminar class with her and visit her during office hours. She was always willing to help and is a leading scholar in her field.

This woman is BRILLANT, no really she is. That being said, she is really hard to follow in class. NO powerpoints ect, all lecture and it is not very organized. She can switch through 5 different subjects in a single sentence and you have no idea what she is talking about or what's important. Be there, take notes. LOT of reading, 6 books!

Lectures can be long and scattered, she jumps around between thoughts, but overall she has a decent direction and structure to the course. Lots of reading, which she discusses in class, just show up and take good notes! She is a reeeally easy grader! Interesting lady.

Shes an overall nice person, but as a teacher she lacks clarity in her lectures and doesn't know how to use a computer. She really needs to upgrade to power point presentations instead of boring, (hard to know what to take notes on) class lectures.

She assigns tons of reading, but gives out take home exams, so you really don't have to do any of it, buy the books and use them when you have to do the exams for reference. Very passionate about her subject matter, but she is very boring if you are not interested in the subject matter. Attending class and using her lectures as reference helps.

Looking for an easy A? Just showing up won't get you one. Lots of reading (5 books: 2 text, 3 ethnography) but worth the effort. Very interesting. Passionate personality. She's older than most with lots of experience. Own research included. 2 take home tests, 1 mini ethnography type paper. Read, go to class, take notes, participate. You got it.

I took her intro to language and culture class. This is a reading intensive class. Be prepared to buy or rent 3 books. She also assigns readings on library reserve. If you read and understand the chapters, the class should be an easy A. She goes over readings in class and uses many examples of her field research on the Tuareg of Africa.

Open discussion lecture class. reading intensive, 7 books. 3 short essays and one long final essay. she lacks clarity in lectures. not a class one can get an A in without effort. requires critical thinking. she can be intimidating, but is sweet. very intelligent, but not the best teacher. only advise anthro majors to take her class.

Religion class uses 5 textbooks that must be read in order to receive a good grade. Take home midterm is a long essay over the readings. Lecture drags until the end of the semester when the content is interesting. Go to class to get an A. Project that is about 3 pages long and a multiple choice final.

If you go to class, take notes, read everything then easy A. 2 tests and one paper. Strict grader but overall I would take her again. She seemed more intimidating then she ended up being. I liked her.

Don't miss class. Take notes on everything she says. Do the readings. Tests are essay or multiple choice take home. Many required textbooks. One paper. If you do the work she is fair and no surprises.

Took religious anthropology, be prepared to buy between 5 and 6 books. She will expect you to read all of them by the end of the semester and it will be necessary if you want to do well on the final. Lectures drag on but she is nice. Easy first exam and paper and easy final if you study and read. Take only if you need to.

Take this class for your writing intensive! Two 4 pg max essays on fun topics (one was about the Avatar movie). 4 multiple choice tests. There is ALOT of reading, so don't fall behind, but she reviews in class. I missed alot of class and my grade was a B for it. Go to class and take notes, and read, and you'll do fine.

This class had A LOT of reading! There are 2 exams and 2 papers (up to 4 pg. max each). This class was alright but Rasmussen's train of thought in lecturing threw me off quite a lot during the course. If you are seriously interested in languages, cultural anthro., etc. take this course...otherwise I would recommend Intro. to Archaeology instead.

I have taken Rasmussen for three of my ANTH courses, and I absolutely adore her. She is enthusiastic and very encouraging. However, class attendance is a must, as she assigns heavy reading and relies on class discussions for exams. My favorite ANTH prof, no doubt!!
