Terrible professor gives you assignments without proper material needed to be successful, won't reply to emails in a way that is helpful. I honestly don't think he even cares about his students. The materials needed for a successful grade on quizzes weren't given to us most of the time and he won't even care if you fail even if it was his fault.

Schmid is a fine person but a terrible professor. Many of the lectures were him talking politics from only his political view or splitting up in to discussion groups where he would come over and bearly listen to what we had discussed. He has a habit of talking over people when they are in the middle of talking. He also dances around questions.

You have to read, analyze, and discuss the entirety of Plato's Republic in the span of a month, with no guidance or outlines and loosely taught material during actual lectures. While he stays in the realm of the topic you are covering, none of the information he teaches is helpful. Quizzes are extremely hard, and you'll prob get Ds/Cs on most.

Whatever you do, do not take PAR 101 online with Schmidd unless you enjoy writing (6) 100+ word discussion board posts per week (oh! and some are due sundays! yay!), 3 quizes per week (which you might as well guess the answers because half of them aren't in the PDF's or powerpoints), and multiple papers that he grades harshly on.

Dr. Schmid is the cutest old man. His class is typically just him talking about the subject matter and using poorly put together slides, but he does a great job of getting the point across and is very passionate about what he does. He's probably my favorite professor here.

Schmidty is a great guy. Had him for three classes and by the last one he felt like an old friend. Very slow and deliberate in his lectures. He will go off on irrelevant tangents sometimes when you all you're looking for is a brief answer. Still though, one of favorite professors at UNCW. Very personable and honest and he wears great cardigans

This is a hard course. He is a genius of a man, knows his information, but if you don't attend class or have a fascination for Philosophy, then this might not be the class for you - I worked super hard, ended with a B. There are tests and papers. Would not have passed if it wasn't for I could write..

Dr. Schmid is a great professor. 3 Tests, 3 papers, one optional paper if you have a B or higher. Takes attendance and remembers who you are. I got 2 A's and a B+ on exams but overall B because I missed about 5 classes. Write F papers and get an A. Super long study guides and doesn't put 1/2 of stuff on test. 1st test is easiest, mostly vocab.

Dr. Schmid gives really boring lectures if you're not a Philosophy major. To me all his words sounded like jumble to me. He gives 3 papers and 3 tests (1 Paper and 1 Test for each subject). Overall he was really helpful but the class was extremely boring.

Entertaining, helpful, and most importantly, extremely knowledgeable about the subject. Even if ancient philosophy isn't your area of interest, this class is a great general survey of Aristotle's thought and you will reap the dividends of a greater understanding of the trajectory he set for western philosophy--and Schmid is the one to teach it.

What a horrible course to take. His lectures and powerpoints are pathetic. I always found myself using the internet and sparknotes instead of his powerpoints and my notes to study before his exams. For his papers I wrote border line D/F quality papers yet he would still give me a C+ or B on. lol. Just show him effort and he will bend for you.

If you show him that you've made an effort to think about the material you'll get a good grade, that's what he really cares about. Classes are entertaining and the assignments are easy. 1 page double spaced is like two paragraphs, people, quit whining. Papers are easy and interesting as well. Schmid is one of the best profs out there, take him!

This was the worst class ever! One page essay due for every class. No tests but 3 papers that he gives low grades on. 2 A's in the class this semester with mostly upperclassmen. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

I went into this class solely to knock out one of my Basic Studies requirements. I came out of it strongly considering changing my major. Professor Schmid is that good, people.

This class seems really difficult at the beginning, but as long as you do the study guide (MUST DO) you will pass the tests. My class had two tests, and then two papers. Make sure you strictly follow the prompts. There is also nightly reading and a one-page summary, which is not too hard, you just discuss it in your group. Participation is a must!

This class was not too bad... it was more history than philosophy, but that is kind of to be expected. If you are looking for a basic study, I would probably take a different one unless you want one more history based. 2 tests and 3 papers (1 of which is optional if your previous grades are good enough)

I absolutely hated this class. Its mostly has to do with being the most UNphilosophical person in the world, but I would definitely NOT recommend taking this class as an elective. Concepts were hard to grasp and tons of reading to understand it all. Def take another PAR class.

Great teacher. You probable won't like him or understand him, at first, but then you will love him! Don't let him stress you out with grades, just work hard in his class and show him you care. He really does just want you to learn.

This guy is really a great teacher. He knows his stuff, and his classes are enormously entertaining. He can be a smartass, but its all for the greater good. Take this class if youre even remotely interested in the history of philosophy!
