For the love of all things holy in this world, save yourself the mental capacity and do not take Soci 201 with Haines. All of her tests are structured as trick questions, she presents herself more as a high school teacher than a professor, and she constantly tells us "sociology is a science," trying to legitimize her field. Avoid at all costs.

Haines focuses us to rely more on the textbook than on the lecture. Her notes are helpful but Id suggest to go over the text book since day 1 as her exams ask more questions from the textbook than from her lecture slides

There's only two midterms and the final. No assignments. So if tests aren't your strong area then good luck. You also need to read the textbook.

Adore her as a professor. Having Haines as the prof was the only reason I could get up for 8 am lectures. She talks quite fast but she repeats important information so you can write it all down. She's helpful, responds quick to emails, and is clear on what is required for exams. Only reason my grade is B- is due to myself, 10/10 WILL take again!

Soci 331 was by far the hardest class I have taken but Haines made it acheivable! Her lectures were incredibly detailed and you needed to show up because a lot of what was on her test she said only in lecture, so take detailed notes are a must. She really emphasized what you needed to know and didn't and her tests were difficult but fair

Took this class as a prereq for upper SOCI courses and getting Haines was probably the best thing that could have happened. Lecture notes are more than adequate for studying, attendance is not mandatory, testable material is clearly established, text book is not needed, and exams were fair and tested understanding of concepts, not pure memorization

Comment:
Honestly this class is super easy if you go to lecture and take good notes on what she says. I got an A+ on the first midterm by reading the textbook and studying lecture notes and an A on the second just through lecture notes. Shes very unwilling to help you outside of lectures though, and comes off rude and annoyed. But the class itself is easy.

Avoid taking her class early in the day. Stern and bossy personality, talks way too fast and unwilling to change, even if it means helping students better learn. Words test questions in a very difficult manner, focus is on making connections on your own. textbook not completely mandatory if you attend all lectures, few ?'s on tests from textbook.

Haines talks a mile a minute but repeats what she is saying 2-3 times in different ways which makes it easy to understand the concepts and take down notes. Her tests are hard, but if you put in the work you will be fine. I got a D on the first midterm and an A+ on the second one by studying more of what she actually says in class about the slides.

Please, for the love of god, avoid! There are only 2 exams and 1 final. I made my own notes, read the slides, reviewed the concepts, and still got 2 D's on my midterms and a C on my final. I thought I understood the content, but the exams were overly complicated and tricky.

I studied super hard for her exams and thought I would get an A but since you need to use her EXACT wording for her short answer tests I ended up getting Cs. Steer clear of her because even if you study you will get a bad mark

Smart, witty and organized. If you study the notes and read the textbook the exams will not be difficult. If you put in the time you will get the result, it's really that simple.

Coming to class is mandatory because she discusses information that will be on the test, that is not found in the notes or textbook. Reading the textbook is also encouraged, however I got an A from reading the notes I made from her lectures. The tests are pretty challenging, but if you know the content you will do good. Great Prof

The worst prof I've ever had. There are three exams and she makes them extremely hard. I did all the readings and took detailed notes in her lectures and only got a C. This class is supposed to be a GPA booster but she makes it hard to pass. The material isn't hard, but she makes the exams impossible to pass.

Dr. Haines is very to the point and explains topics in a way that is clear and concise. You need to know all the topics covered and be able to connect them to one another. Her tests are brutal and have some tricky questions however if you know the content well you'll be fine.

Dr. Haines lectures were straight-forward, and she explained concepts quite well. Her lectures are very fast paced, so you have to be on your toes. Her tests are multiple choice and not too difficult (just be sure to thoroughly read the question and all possible answers). Overall, if you attend lecture, you should do well in her class.

Had her for an 8am class. Goes through the content very quickly and has a level of enthusiasm and energy that will keep you awake. Puts some other information on powerpoints that is not put on D2L. Otherwise, you can afford to miss classes but it is better to show up as she gives many examples and deeper explaining in class.

Dr. Haines has a stern lecture presence but delivers material in a very clear and concise manner. Ideas are well connected to each other and several explanations of each topic are provided. Dr. Haines prepares sample questions before each exam and if you attend lectures and do the required readings you should have no problem excelling in this class
