Best thing about this class is the lab visit. You get to see superconductivity first hand, applications of SC, and a linear particle accelerator. It was really cool! No other 1321 prof does that. Dr. Chu is a great prof who cares about having you understand. Don't hesitate to ask questions and participate. Do that, read, hw & ur golden.

you shouldn't take physics at uh in the fist place but if you do, Dr. chu is the best choice after miller. His curve is generous and he lets you know what you have to do to succeed.

Take the reviews here with a grain of salt. Uni. Physics is not an easy, and many students have a difficult time. However, it is very possible to finish with a good grade if you read the textbook, understand the HW, and ASK FOR HELP. Dr. Chu is very helpful and will try his best to answer your questions; I recommend asking thru email). Good luck!

Really cares about his students. Very accessible outside of class. Lectures are alright but can be hard to understand at times for some people

Comment:
Dr. Chu may be responsible for some cool research in the physics field, but he is not suited to teach in a classroom at this point in his life. He doesn't project well, his accent is hard to understand (I hate to say this), he skips over vital steps in solving problems, and he contradicts himself from time to time. Avoid this professor if you can.

I did not attend more than half the lectures because he was not that good of a professor but I ended up passing fairly. He does curve fairly and is very considerate of his students. If you are ready to self study, take him.

He is not a very good lecturer and does not explain further when asked to. His test reviews are nothing like the test and he does not offer extra credit for them like other professors do. He does one example per lecture and does not cover the material in depth at all. I would strongly recommend that you do not take him for Physics.

Physics will always be a pain when taken at a University level. This professor is hard, does not speak good English and writes in chalk without fully erasing the board. Read the textbook and you will be fine. Overall he's a fun guy and honestly your better choice over Bassler. Read; or go to HCC or Lone Star, that's the mentality of this class.

If possible, take another professor for University Physics 1. His lectures were unorganized and hard to follow. Form a good study group and try to teach yourself the material that way. Also, see if you can get some old tests from people who took the class before. He curves a lot; I should have failed that class but I came out with a B-.

Avoid this professor. does not provide enough help for tests. He only presents example problems when sometimes I really just need him to teach the concept. Also, if you ask him a question 90% of the time he can't hear you or he doesn't even answer the question you asked. Self studying was hell!

This guy was terrible. He is tied for top on the "Worst Professor I've ever taken" list. I had to teach myself as I didn't learn anything from him.

He is probably the Fairest professor that teaches in the department. Unlike the other professors he tries to incorporate a lot of examples in his lectures and goes over numerous homework problems. You have to understand this is not an easy class and you have to work for your grade. He does employ a curve at the end, and his exams are fair.

His teaching style is a little bit of lecture and he tries to do an example every class which is very helpful. Physics Is not an easy subject which the students did not take into account. If you stick with it and do the homework and read you will do fine

A good teacher who tries very hard to help students understand. Regularly curves and averages tests and replaces lowest with final, does everything he can to help you pass. Not to mention he is incredibly brilliant and impressive to listen to

DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! especially if you have never taken physics. your best bet is to get a book, teach yourself or go to the classes without signing up and take a placement exam for the credit. Will save you lots of money and wasted time

Chu is a good professor to take if you like teaching yourself physics. He is impossible to understand during class. read the book and do all of the problems and you should do all right.
