I might receive my first failing grade ever in my 3 years of attending college. This professor can't teach for the life of him and he puts problems on tests that were never discussed or even in the homework so you are basically playing the lottery in terms of what you study. If you NEED this class wait to take it with someone else. Trust me.

I hate writing negative reviews, especially seeing how professors now a days read these intently, but it would not be fair of me not to warn students who are thinking about taking this class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Worst professor I have ever encountered. You are better off staying home and you tubing the subjects. His lectures are SO bad! BAADDDD!

I love finance but this class is making me miserable. I grew up in a diverse area so I understand accents but this is ridiculous it can be hard to understand "you'll be lucky if you get a b" what was said on the first day of school.. Finance is supposed to be hard, and difficult, NOT IMPOSSIBLE. I am teaching myself and I hope I pull of a B

Im not the person who will give a professor a bad rating because their class is tough, b/c finance is not supposed to be easy, but this is ridiculous. He reads 50 slides, word for word of PowerPoint &calls it a lecture. When he gets behind during the year he reads the heading then moves on. Im running out of characters but avoid at all costs!!!!!

Worst teacher I have ever taken, take anybody but him. literally paid to sleep in this class, not my fault because his lectures are so boring and monotone that when i would wake up from the middle of my nap and look around i would see at least 1/3 of the class sleeping as well. Also is test are super unreasonably hard.

Worst professor in all of finance. Its too bad he is the only one that teaches certain classes such as 331. If possible, avoid his class. If not, good luck. His class alone has made me lose all interest and motivation in studying finance. Im leaving CSUSM next year and transferring. Worst finance department ever...

Lectures are very dry. He prints slides out and the reads them and points to them on the screen. Does not work many problems on board. His examples do not help. Homework is easy points.. but there is no tutoring opportunities and his tests are HARD. I don't know how people pass.

If you look at all the negative reciees, its from FIN 302 students, or non-finance students. Dr. Tsay is an excellent teacher if you care to understand the material, and you will have to put in the work. Took him for three clases and enjoyed each one.

He is a really nice guy, who puts a lot of effort in his teaching. However his lessons can be confusing, we dont do a lot of examples. Hard exams, Bad Average, curves, extra credit, homework points for doing not for right answers, Have to study hard with both books and slides to get a decent grade

3 Tests that are 80% of your grade. All m/c exams. Allows cheat sheet, great curves on the exams and again for overall. Gives bonus points sometimes, allows an extra credit opportunity. HW graded for trying not correctness. It is a challenging class you have to work hard in Finance. Not sure why he gets so much hate. Great guy!

Great professor, really nice. Lectures off ppt slides. MC exams are challenging, study hard and you'll get a decent grade. Allowed a cheat sheet. 5 hw assignments which are straightforward, not too difficult. 10-15 min individual presentation, don't read word for word from slides! Options trading project & 10 pg paper. Utilize his office hours.

Dr. Tsay is a nice guy. However, that's the only good thing I can say about this course. The midterm and final make up 90% of the grade, and both stray from the homework questions dramatically. The final in particular deviates strongly from practice material, making this a remarkably difficult course to pass. 50% of my class got a C+ or lower.

You can't even learn the basics of finance through his teaching. Doesn't put effort teaching the class. I've met a lot of ppl that failed his class, that should show something about his teaching method compared to other finance professors at csusm. Lectures are monotone, ppts and exams are from the book. Nothing original about his teaching. Sadly.

Tsay is a nice guy, but difficult to understand when he lectures (thick accent) & doesn't fully answer student questions at times. Our grades were based off two tests and a paper. The tests had little to do with the homework & were very tough. Take another professor if you can, but this class is the toughest foundation class and it will show.

Horrible teacher!!!!I showed up to every class and read the book and I'm still failing. His tests are so difficult, nothing compared to the homework problems assigned. There are only two tests each worth 45% and a 10 pg. paper worth 10%. I don't understand how is still teaching when the average on the midterm was a 60% out of a class of 120.

Being that this is a mandatory class for all Business Admin. majors, one would think there may be more options and not just this guy. Terrible teacher, although he seems to be trying. However, we do not pay good money to just be cheated out of our education in the end. Where is all the money going CSUSM? Hire some real TEACHERS for a change.

How is it possible that this professor is the only option for FIN 302? He starts the class by telling us that at least 60% of the class will fail. Seriously why are you a professor then? VERY hard to understand. Gives no credit for homework. I would say do NOT take this class, but there's no other option.

1 ten-page paper, 3 exams, 1 final, homework, and one side page of cheap sheet for the exams. There is no reason why anyone would fail his class if you put the time and effect, and he gives extra credit but you have to be there to take advantage of the opportunities. Paid attention when he give lectures because some of it will show up in the exam.

HW is part of your grade. 3 exams that he makes and are extremely hard. One 10 page paper you have to right.
