Nice guy, but you will learn nothing in his class. Do not bother doing his practice tests. They will be nothing like the real test. His tests make no sense. The choices sometimes have no right answers or two right answers. You can't understand him. He doesn't present any steps to solving the problems. The class average on our final was 57%.

Comment:

Not the best professor. Midterm & final are both worth 40% of the grade. Homework & participation is 16% & 4%. His way of teaching math problems is explaining already written out problems. His thick accent makes him hard to understand. But he does curve the midterm and final if the average is low. And his textbook is only for the homework.

Honestly, I've never rated a professor before because most professors are decent. Even the "worst of the worst." Liao is undisputedly the WORST teacher I have had at UCR, and probably in my entire life. He is near incomprehensible, the tests never mirror his sample tests, ans the book is near useless except for the homework. PLEASE AVOID HIM!

Class isn't too hard, but you really need to study and pay attention to lectures. The book is helpful but lectures are crucial. Practice makes perfect. Homeworks are good practice but they won't help you study for the tests, nor will the practice exams he posts. Make you're own study guide based on lecture notes.

Professor Liao has an accent and is really repetitive at times. The midterms are curved about 10 points but the average was still a D for my class. Make sure to get all the HW and attendance points and try to get average on the midterms and you should pass the class. The book is necessary if you want an A.

Professor Liao did have an accent which was hard to understand but you can tell he really wants his students to get the concepts he is teaching. He is very willing to help if you ask questions. Also, your TA may be your best friend because I learned the most through my TA and discussion. The study packets were helpful!

His accent was very heavy and the book was not too helpful either. The best you can do to succeed in this class is study the chapter review packets he gives out and do the homework. There are a few videos on youtube that cover the material and go through similar examples. Study his practice exams too!

Comment:

Woody is very passionate for the subject of accounting, be he is very hard to understand and him repeating the importsnt concept 3 times helps sometimes. Not very clear and rather confusing when talking to him. Read the book and notes, and do the homework. Having a good TA also helps, but he leaves it up to TAs on how to run their discussions.

Professor Liao isn't bad as long as you get used to his accent. Pay attention to the examples he goes over in class because it's helpful for the hw. As long as you go to lecture and do the hw, you'll do good on the tests. Accounting is a hard subject but this class was manageable as long as you put in the effort.

Professor Liao is so nice. If you have any question, just ask him and he would help you to figure out the problem. The exams are easy, the only thing you should do is to review his assignment clearly. Again, he is really nice and helpful.

This class wasn't that bad - reviews scared me at first but Professor Liao is a great professor. Has an accent but after sitting through lecture a few times, you'll understand him. HW is easy, tests are mainly definitions from the book. He's actually very helpful in office hours if you take the time to go. I had a great experience overall.

Honestly he might know the material, but it is impossible to keep up with his lecture in between accounting terms and such a thick accent. Midterm was difficult and final was near impossible. Get 100% on your homework/discussion participation and score AT LEAST the class average for the midterm/final and the curve will bring you to around a B-

He doesn't know how to teach and his accent doesn't help at all. The homework is very easy but his test do not reflect any of the assignments. If you want to pass this class with an A, I recommend you read the whole book and take good notes and make sure you REALLY understands all the concepts. you will have to teach yourself all the material.

Professor Liao always uses easiest way to make me understand accounting concepts. And he is willing to help students to figure out problems. He builds up my confidence on Accounting.BTW, I also took his cost accounting course, and it's very GOOD!
