Amazing Prof, I was one of the few females in our Medieval Political Thought class, but he helped me feel as if my voice was being equally heard. Great advisor and helped me settle into campus during my first year. Will be continuing to take his classes all throughout my years at Mac.

Easy A as long as you take the time to write some short papers. His lectures are great and packed with useful information on current issues, even though his views are not popular at Mac (center left/right). My only problem with the class is that he cancels them too often because he is very laid back

At first, Professor Latham can come off as arrogant and not caring he has bad email etiquette and he won't bother to learn your name. That being said, he's very knowledgable and if you go to his office hours and engage with him, you'll find he's a nice guy and you will see the results in your course work.

Comment:
An eloquent professor who gives amazing lectures, which makes it extra dangerous when he smuggles his conservative ideologies and makes them sound charming in a class that is supposed to introduce rather than to preach. Admittedly, he acknowledges his political stance but that doesn't serve as an excuse to be intentionally biased.

He's one of the few politically moderate professors on campus which is a nice change of pace from the typical Mac prof. I really enjoy all of his classes and his enthusiasm for the subject is very noticeable.

the class was no stress at all and i was ultimately very glad to have taken it. his lecturing is one of the most interesting to listen at macalester bc he isn't ultra leftist like most faculty. maybe the most pragmatic prof i've had. you don't realize how much you've learned until later since it's so laid back. also just a delightful man.

Definitely the most fun class I've ever taken. Not a lot of work but what you have is relevant (no busywork). The subject matter is more interesting than other classes. It takes some people a bit to figure out how to participate (which is essential), but once they do, almost everyone I know enjoyed the class.

Latham is recently tenured, which predicts a bright future for our Political Science department. If you're interested in critical international theory, he's your prof. Knows his curriculum front to back and pulls put gold from the most sparse class discussions. Will eagerly accompany ind. research with you if you're on top of your game.

Latham is an awesome professor. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and is a great asset in the Political Science department. While he isn't super prompt about getting work back, its not something that takes away from the class experience.

Latham is awesome. He doesn't drown you in busywork, and he's very helpful if you need anything, not to mention one of the most interesting and knowledgable professors at Mac.

Ha. Do people actually read this? Latham belongs at a research University, but maybe prefers being a big fish in a small pond. He is clearly bothered by teaching, but doesn't want to waste his time, so he does lecture: consider it practice for NPR. I actually chose him as my adviser, however, because I knew he would clear me, no questions asked!

If you can over the fact he won't read your papers he is great. When he wants to be, he is the best professor at Mac.

as long as you dont expect him to do anything but show up to class and talk, he is good. if you expect him to read a paper or know you exist or care, take a different class.

He is very smart, know his stuff, but doesn't care at ALL about being a professor, he is all about his own work. Doesn't read papers, never gets work back. Tells his advisees he's cleared them to register and doesn't, and is never available except if you tail him to his office right after class.
