Lecture consists of Dr. Read going through a powerpoint, stopping to ask the class a broad question, waiting for a reply, and then she asks for more detail until you say some specific word she's looking for. Then, the process repeats. You'll learn more content and more efficiently by reading the book. Quizzes and tests come from the book's testbank

Comment:

She doesnt know anyones name and she definitely doesnt care if you learn anything. I had her for Bio 351 Lab specifically and honestly the students in the class were more effective in helping everyone understand the labs than she was. This was probably because they actually care the class, unlike Dr. Read, who spends all her time in her office.

She is very knowledgeable a lot of information to cover. The class was not easy. For this semester she gave a midterm which had an online timed multiple choice, and free response questions was done in class. Second test, the final was like 32 of midterm the rest was new info. This is one of the most challenging courses I've taken, but I have the utmost respect for Dr. Read. She is the only professor who treats you like an adult, has high expectations, and actually challenges you to think. Anyone who complains should not be a biology major.

This was a great class! It was one of the most challenging classes ive had. You definatly need to read the book and sometimes she can be a bit unclear in lecture but she is always availble to answer questions and if you READ (like really read) an go to SI you will do fine. I got a B in this class.

She's a nice lady, but she sucks at teaching! Doesn't know how to teach, during lectures she would often get confused at what she was teaching and tell the class to forget what she said before! If you want to pass it's best to read the book. Oh also, when you go to her office hours she's never there!!!

Comment:

One of my favorite teachers. Good people. She isn't easy, but the class isn't for idiots and it is designed as a benchmark class for the bio major. All students should RIP this class apart and those who complain are confused and should switch to commmunication and ace those classes. Wish there were more like her.

The class is tough, but she tries to do her best to get information across. She is very helpful when you have any questions. She gives quizzes and the questions from these quizzes will show up exactly word for word in the midterm and final. If you read the book and follow her notes you will not get less than a B. She is a very nice person also!!!

Molecular Bio is tough, and Prof. Read tries to make the material as easy as possible. You do have to read the book to do well in the class. All the multiple choice questions from the quizzes will show up on the test exactly word for word.

Unable to comprehend what the hell she is explaining. When she does try to explain, she has to correct herself in a way, in other words, confusing the whole class with her lectures. She does seem smart when doing experiments but when it comes to teaching what she had done, that is a different story.

This is a tough class with tough material. Prof Read is NOT a bad professor, however she does have a tendency to plow through material. Most people in class are too intimidated to ask questions, however she will take the time to explain material if asked. During labs she is very approachable. She is very professional.

I got an "A".Record lectures. This is molecular cellular biology it is not suppose to be easy. Suck it up you whiners. Yea you will have to open your book and study for this class!

The sheer depth that Dr. Read goes into the material with is absolutely astonishing; by the end of the semester I had over 80 pages of notes just from her lectures. As for Dr. Read herself, hmmm....she's not malevolent or cruel in the least, but I think that she gets ahead of herself way too often.

this was the worst class ever!!!! she might be very smart, but she doesnt know how to explain. she is always busy and do not give enough time to the students. if you go to her office hrs, she will reject you and say that she has to go. her test are HORRIBLE! she confuses you and moreover HERSELF!

Most of what you have heard about this professor is true. She is a very poor professor. There really isn't much need to go to class except to take the quizzes and tests. Rather than that just attend SI sessions and get help on the quiz answers because they are repeats for the exams. Goodluck.

Hardest class Ive ever taken. Must teach your self. Tests are difficult, if you get a C its like getting an A. Dr. Read dosn't believe in GPA's so she has no problem screwing with yours. I heard sombody got an A once, so I guess its possible. Take sombody alse for lab if you can.

Dr. Read is a well-intentioned yet unorganized professor. She is hard to understand and is sometimes confusing; however, it is still possible to receive an A and learn the material - it just takes more work on your part... no hand holding in this class!

Not helpful, doesn't answer questions in class and confuses the students when she does. Lectured on material that wasn't even correct, as my peers and I found out in another class. Doesn't help you when you ask questions and doesn't answer emails, ever.
