The exams were recently revised, and are insanely difficult. The average for first exam was a 70. Takes at least a week of studying for a least 2 hours a day to get an A, which is ridiculous for a GenEd. I am a Pre-Med with a 3.8, so it is definitely not a lack of competence. Graded off a few in class quizzes (which are graded terribly) and 3 exams

Comment:

Pr. Bonj Szczygiel has one of the most amazing teaching voices you will ever hear. She should narrate documentaries. Probably the best speaker I've ever had for a class. She keeps you interested in the lecture, and always provides good detail about what you're learning.

Comment:

Bonj is a very artsy professor, as expected for teaching an at course. She gives a lot of notes every lecture and the only way to be ready for the tests is to go to class and go to office hours if you miss something. If you go to class and take good notes, you wont have a problem getting an A.

Comment:

One of the best professors I have ever had. Absolutely loved her and the way that she taught. She really showed the passion that she had during all of her lectures and was always more than willing to help if you ever needed anything!!

Comment:

Professor Szczygiel cares greatly for her students, although she may care too much. Often she tends to spoon-feed information rather than to force students to think. Show up, take good notes for the exams, and you will get an A.

I loved how she taught the class. She was clear about the material that was taught during the class. If you listen carefully and review the lecture often, you will definitely get a successful grade in this class. This class has taught me to look at the buildings and landscapes in a different way and overall the course was very interesting to me.

The amount of time I spend watching lectures and taking notes with the provided outlines versus my test grades is very frustrating. The questions on the exams are incredibly nit-picky. Lets just say Im doing significantly better in my 400-level major courses.

Prof Szczygiel might be a nice gal but she has no idea how to teach. She gets off topic in class and there's no textbook for you to review for exams. DO NOT TAKE

Although this class has no online material and you must go to class to receive the information, the professor makes it worth your time. She is extremely well educated, clear in her lectures, and always asking for feedback on the exams to make them better. If you need help she is always encouraging emails or discussion after class

3 Exams, 2 Research Papers, 5 Participation Quizzes. Go to class, take good notes, and use a lot of sources on each paper. Also, extra credit, 1 page paper opportunity for 5 pts added to your final grade (i.e. if you have an 85, and get 100% credit on the EC paper, your final grade will be a 90).

Took this class last semester. No textbook so it is imperative you attend every lecture. Record her lectures, take detailed notes, and go to her office hours. Coming from a foolish freshman who barely managed to pass her class, stay attentive or your GPA will suffer.

Most of the lectures are extremely boring. She does do a good job, however. Highly recommend getting nittany notes for tests. An A in the class is very achievable.

Bonj was a good professor. Grades are solely based on three exams, so study hard. Studied for over a week before exams and did well. Take detailed notes. Bonj is willing to answer questions from study guide that you don't know the answer to. Although the class is difficult, it is not impossible if you focus during class and put the time in.

It was like she came in hammered everyday and spitted out what ever random knowledge she had in her head. The knowledge is always accurate either. She said that JFK sign the Treaty of Versailles. Even if you go to class and write down every word she says, there will still be questions on that test about something that you have never heard of.

The class is not really had, but the professor does not help anything! when we asked her questions before the exam (as which she recommended before), she just said "all it's seem like you dont understand the whole lecture, so I can do nothing to help, but the nittany notes or ask someone else"

She is pretty entertaining to listen to. She gets off topic sometimes and is a bit confusing to follow when you use the outline. I would say take the class though, worth it.

Pretty easy class if you go and take notes. Note the curriculum I expected, but turned out to be a very interesting class for my gen ed. Prof was nice, very helpful. Her reviews before exams were the best. You can get 3 extra % by writing short essays. But you have to write quickly and pay attention in class.

I think this professor is great! She is the nicest, friendly lady and if you on the fence about taking this class, take it. If you do the MINIMAL amount of studying you will get a B. 3 exams and 3 opportunities for bonus and it is easy bonus which are 1 grade percent each. Professor is not confusing she makes class interesting, she is animate
