Comment:
Dr. Lott does everything to get his students excited and interested in the craft of writing and becoming better writers. He is also good humored and a bit of a goof. He assigns books to read and gives little pop quizzes on them, so make sure to read them. They are super interesting and help with writing, so it's not too bad.

Bret is a distinguished author, obviously, as well as he is extremely well respected on campus. Don't take this class if you don't like being made fun of. He's a joker for sure. He's tough on your writing - you better have thick skin. But he's the best professor I've ever had. As an aspiring writer, this is the man to learn from.

Expects you to remember random details in fifteen seconds as a way of proving you did the reading, though probably just for sh!ts and giggles. Gives smart advice, has authority in writing fiction given credentials, but made personal attacks in the middle of class to multiple students. I hope one day I'll have the significance to act unprofessional!

Lott was AMAZING! The class was mainly workshop, so no quizzes or tests (and no final exam!) You read a lot of stories written by fellow students, then you discuss them in class. Don't take this class if you don't want people to read your work, but keep in mind that it was VERY helpful and inspiring. No letter grades; if ya do it, ya pass.

Bret Lott is hilarious! If you're on his good side he will love you, if you're on his bad side he'll mostly ignore you. He loves witty banter and likes students with personality and character. He knows his stuff, he is a published author and has been on Oprah. He doesn't really talk about it as he prefers to stay somewhat humble on that topic.

If you get on his bad side, you won't have a great time. If you get on his good side, he'll be the funniest man you've ever known. He has a magical power that allows him to know whether or not you've put effort into your work; effort = he will like you. Simple as that.

I almost put his easiness to 1 just to scare everyone away from the course. It's a great course though and probably one of the most refreshing parts of the day. Lott is excellent. Not "commercially" excellent but the real deal. Not for the overly sensitive though. Workshop is supposed to be brutally honest. "Never will you have this opportunity."-h

Bret, Bret, Bret. Most people will be scared of him because he puts on this holier-than-thou persona but it's not true. He's really down to earth and really funny. I love his classes definitely will take more. If you are serious about writing and fiction take him, he is the best when it comes to helping you realize what you are trying to say.

There isn't enough to say about Bret Lott. He really is one of the best professors you will ever have. He is so down to earth though he doesn't seem like it. His advice is very good and should be taken seriously. You will love it if you love English. I would take every class he teaches if I could. Definitely recommend taking him at some point.

If you are easily offended, do not take any classes with Bret Lott. If you are easily amused, take all classes with Bret Lott! But do not ask him about Oprah's Book Club. He is extremely talented and inspires you to love writing. I...love him.
