Comment:
In the in-class evaluation I was quite unfair. Looking back, I wish other professors would be like Stirar and deliver that classical liberal education. He dumbs down his lectures. That was the root of my original anger. He is learned. But you must break through the austerity and ask questions. One class could yield a semester of knowledge.

He can teach Marlow, but is quite lame with everybody else. I think he knows more about other writers but will not teach it (probably because he thinks everybody is stupid (which he's mostly right)). He's old school academic, but you don't get much learning out of him.

Please do not take this class! Prof Striar does not care about his students, which makes his class very hard. He makes his students feel stupid when answering his questions, and he is a very hard grader. Going to his office hours don't seem to help much and he is very unorganized.

Prof. Striar is a very smart teacher, i had difficulties because I did not visit him suring office hours in the beginning, but when i did visit him my grade improved immensely. He grades essays harshly. All in All, I enjoyed this class and learned much from it.

Horrible professor. He takes pride in degrading students and is very critical when grading work. Also he stresses poetry a lot and expects you to have a complete comprehension of everything before the class begins. I would not recommend him to anyone.

It was an amazing experience being in this professor's class. I enjoyed his humor and excellent knowledge of Literature. His love of the subject was intoxicating. I plan to take him again in the fall.

Knows his material. However, poor job of being helpful to students. Questionable grading, and very unprofessional and very unorganized. For some reason will not let you use your rubrics to take the essay exam. knowledge of the subject is excellent, but very unfair way of grading. This teacher needs to be reported.

Professor Striar is truely wonderful. He knows his subject and is excited to be teaching them. His class is not easy and is meant to teach. It isn't something to take just for the credit. It is a class that you must contstantly prepare for and pay attention to. This is the sort of professor that makes college an actual learning experience.

The Prof. seems to know a lot about the subject and I enjoyed listening to him. However, if you work a lot like I do, you may not want to take a night class because I had a hard time staying with it. Make sure you read! If he asks you to volunteer, say no, or he might hump you as an educational experience. Didn't like that but he was interesting.

He's very knowledgable about Literature. He's strict but has a hateful dark sense of humor. You'll probably not like him at first, but by the end of the semester you'll like him. Oh and he wears the exact same sleeveless dark blue shirt with black workout shorts everyday.

Striar understands Renaissance literature better than almost anyone, including the students in his classes, as you will learn if you take him many times as I did as an undergrad. Just being in his presence is to participate in the life of the mind, which is not something that can be said for many at UNF.

Comment:
Stiar isn't a good teacher, he lectures too long, doesn't seem interested in student interaction or sharing of ideas. He only gave 3 ways to be graded & when 90% of the class failed 1 test then that was wiped out, leaving only 2 inclass essays for your final grade. It really seemed to me that he was trying to limit the amount of work he had to do.

Comment:
The class can be boring, but Dr. Striar is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. If you are interested in doing a lot of different readings from the early British period, this is not the class for you as the readings were limited to the Canterbury Tales and Hamlet. Not an easy "A", but hardwork can get you there.

well he is a hard grader, but he's very smart. He is ALWAYS right...if you have a different idea about something, don't tell him!!! Be careful with what you say, he's not afraid to cut you down. You MUST participate or you won't pass...and the test are WAY harder than he lets on...write EVERYTHING down. for the most part, this classed sucked...but
