Wadsworth Anthology of Drama for HSS-1. A minute late is a minute late. Extremely offensive in the most hilarious way. Unlike many other classes, this professor tries his best to include everybody. Balanced coverage of material. Take this class if you're up for a challenge 3-4x 1 page essays (1 per play) 2x 5 page essays (mid & finals)

Comment:

Swann confuses metaphor with metonymy. He has no comprehension of Post-Colonial studies, Psychoanalysis, or contemporary poetics. His fast reading of texts is topical; he conflates content with meaning, has been teaching for too long as a perpetually infuriated man, is pedantic, condescending, and an exceedingly apathetic editor. The worst yet.

I've taken Swann for two classes. Poetry and Modern Drama. If you want an easy pass, just get a different teacher. Swann is incredibly reasonable, he didn't require 20 pgs of writing for HSS4. (2 5pg. papers) He understands how difficult being a cooper student is and ends class the week of finals so students can focus on their major's classes.

Brian Swann is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He insults everyone but it is really funny. You just can't take it personally. He is also extremely kind and helpful outside of class.

Swann is a tough cookie, and a harsh grader. He does not suffer fools gladly. If you actually want to learn something and don't mind coming to class on time, go out of your way to register for his classes. He will insult everyone in the class at least once. If you have seen the TV show "House", then you have some idea what you're in for.

Verbally abusive- it seems that his goal in class was to humiliate each student at least once a day. Likes feeling that he has power over others and definitely asserts it unnecessarily. avoid his class by any means. If not, be prepared to be ripped apart by his malicious invective.

Good lit. teacher, bad human being. His methods are elementary - writing down words 10x-100x if somebody doesn't know the definition, verbally abusive, insulting, un-encouraging. Make sure you do not sign up for Swann's class!
