Comment:
Ouch. I did well in this class ONLY because I had previous programming experience. Without that I would've been in big trouble (in an INTRODUCTORY programming class!). Class organization and grading criteria ranges from lacking to seemingly nonexistent, with projects that are completely inappropriate for novice level programmers.

He does not teach anything, just talks about old code that is not relevant to the course. You will spend lots of time on his projects and journals, so be prepared. His websites and project graders malfunction continually, and the TA's do not understand what is happening in his class any better than he does.

Riedesel is honestly a very nice person. The class itself though just ain't good at all. Whoever originally decided Matlab needed to be taught to engineering students deserves to be crucified. Okay, maybe a bit extreme. Whole class is pretty unorganized & poorly explained. But if you try hard, you can get through it alright. Advice: Use the TAs!!

Dr. Riedesel is a terrible professor. Overall, he is a nice guy, and wants us to succeed. However, he so unorganized, as well as, awful when it comes to teaching. He runs a third party software that is unlike what any of us use on our computer. He also creates projects that have absolutely nothing to do with engineering, and all we do is games.

Professor Riedesel's class is a mess. He does not teach anything in lecture and leaves you to figure everything out with the help of a TA. Projects are long and difficult, all of the assignments have poorly written directions. Nice guy but terrible teacher.

He literally teaches nothing useful in lectures at all. Students have to teach themselves. Engineering is hard already and this class seems to be the hardest.

After working 20+ hours a week on the project, I still failed the class. Only 1/5 passed, they were already taking the class the second time. The students that didn't go on to take the class again changed their major. Do yourself a favor and wait to take the class with another professor who doesn't tell dad jokes the whole lecture.

I learned maybe five things tops from the lectures, he would always go through his old complicated codes in class, no clear objectives. Ever. Doing the labs, projects, and reading the textbook were the only ways to learn in this class, but it was hard if you didn't know what was going on to begin with. Exams were mysteries-nothing to study from.

On the first day of class when I saw that his desktop was covered in random files and he was not using the gridlock feature, I knew that this class would be chaos. I could not have been more right. I don't even know what went on in class. Chuck is a great guy at heart, but unfortunately for all his students, guy is not synonymous with professor.

This class single-handedly destroyed my confidence and optimism. The projects are way harder than the material taught. I can't even count how many nights I didn't sleep, teaching myself this material. Thanks for nothing. Love, a broken engineering student.

This class made me cry on the weekly basis. Do not take unless you absolutely need to. Projects took forever and were pretty rushed. The TA's were probably as confused as the students. :(

This class is utter misery. Highly suggest not taking unless you are required to. If you're required, then good luck. This class took up a lot of my time, it was really ridiculous especially for only 3 credit hours. This class really makes me hate myself.

This professor does not teach the material well at all. He teaches information in a disorderly fashion and often goes off track in class. He does not follow the class schedule very well and our midterm exam was so low that he made the whole class retake the midterm exam. Read the book and do not go to class (take the class online).

He is always disorganized, he barely teaches anything in lectures, just reads out from the text book, which you could basically do on your own time. He makes his lousy TAs do all the teaching for him outside of lecture and half the time they're as confused as you are. If you are required to take this class for you're degree like I was I'm sorry.

Had him for 230 Spring 2017. Worst experience Ive ever had. Choas described the course. After every single person failed the first test, they assured us that there would be ways to be saved. For about 85% of the class, they still failed. Poor TAs were overworked so hard. Took the class the next semester, no problems. Material was not the problem.

He is an okay lecturer but the actual organization of the course is terrible. He does almost nothing besides lecturing and this leaves undergraduate TAs to do absolutely everything in the class. The UTAs write and grade everything in the course which they do a good job at. This was one of the worst run courses I have ever taken at UNL.

Pros - He had some pretty good puns. Personally, He's a very nice guy. Cons- The course was a complete mess in terms of organization. The homework was impossible at times. His lectures were disconnected from the course. The final comes early near the beginning of a semesters dead week.

While the UTA's were the driving force behind anyone learning anything in the class, Reidesel is always astoundingly kind and happy to help anyone that enters his door. He can bee a bit scatterbrained at times, but he always wants to help you become the best they can.

This class was extremely unorganized and challenging. The TA's will be the most help for you, so suck up to them. The good thing is, a large majority of the class will do absolutely terrible so there is a big scaling of grades at the end.

TA will give you a lot of helps. And it is important to choose partners since you have a lot of projects which helps you to understand the textbook content. Good luck and have fun!
