CD is a fantastic private teacher. Some people might think he is unclear in the way he instructs, but all you need to do is listen to him. He's a fantastic player, and you can learn a LOT from him. I've also had him for skills and class brass, and I learned a lot in those classes too. Just work hard and you'll succeed. If you don't, you won't.

CD is a great teacher, albeit very demanding. You'll get a lot of practice in Skills I, but it requires a decent amount of work outside of class. I've never had a very good ear and I feel as though his class is helping develop my skills more than my friends who are in other skills I classes. If possible I would take him for skills II as well.

Do not schedule any of his classes if you are afraid to work. The effort you put into his class is exactly the reward you get out of it. Being a trombone major, I have to say he has offered the most help regarding how to play the instrument/pieces better. So what if his singing is 5 cents flat? The method is more important than the material.

This class is hard because he expects way above intermediate level playing on instruments you just picked up that day, that man is truly an idiot. If you can, take Dr. Ferguson for class brass

CD was great when he first came to IUP but he has gotten worse now - alot worse. He didn't have much understanding for the working-class student. I had to work to put myself thru college so being able to practice 24/7 was impossible. He berated you and showed you the door if you didn't practice enough. I changed my major because of him.

When I had him for Brass Ensemble I loved the man, I learned a lot and had fun. This semester when I took him for Class Brass, it was another world. He was absolutely RUDE and treated us like we were worms. He rarely taught us anything and expected us to be amazing at these instruments we just started. I was appalled.

I wouldn't call him the WORST professor ever. He isn't great at communicating and he likes to pull pitches out of midair that are wrong, and sing flat - if you have perfect pitch, I would not recommend him; it's annoying. However, he's willing to answer questions as long as you're respectful, and very funny in a bizarre way.

I firmly believe he's the worst prof in the IUP music department. He has a huge attitude problem and gets off on being on control and bullying students around. He can be very rude and condicending for all the wrong reasons (aka: people asking questions)

Awful, awful teacher. Awful man for that matter. It's true, he has favorites, and it's well known who they are. Don't even consider taking him for Fundies of Conducting. You will learn absolutely NOTHING! He does not tell you what you are doing wrong. And he does not try to teach you in any way... It's been a waste of a class.

CD is a really great teacher, and I have no idea why everyone else has bashed him so much. He's really bizarre and funny, and his tests are easy. He does expect you to be able to sight sing without solfeg written in, but this helps so much in the future. He's a fair grader, and if you're doing well he doesn't care if you don't come to class!

He'd be a better teacher if he could actually play the piano and sing on pitch.. That way, he might be less of a hippocrate when he hands out B's and C's for sight singing.

Dr. Dickinson is the worst teacher ever. He has his favorites and it is well known. Besides that he gets joy out of watching his students have nervous breakdowns. I'm lucky to have graduate with a degree in Music Ed, because he almost got to me.

very willing to help you if you are struggling in class....he went out of his way to schedule a time for me to have a private lesson with him....yes he can be intimidating....but like the person before me said....he wants to prepare us for the real world....he also has a very dry sense of humor....which can turn some ppl away...but i think it's cool :-)

His intimidation is encouragement. He lays lots of responsibility on the student, but that is because he wants to prepare the student for the real world.

Lessons, when practiced for, were a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am affair. In and out, no deep insight. If you don't practice, expect the boot. His interest for music is less of boundless passion to create or excel and more of the band-geekness that fills the department. I've had better.

Absolutely hated going to class, hated taking the tests even more because he was so distant and intimidating at the same time. Sits at computer, ignores you while you're playing/singing, and then either says good/horrible, and then dismisses you. Doesn't encourage or suggest ways to better work on t

Great trombonist!! He is intimidating at first, but you do learn alot from him. I recommend that freshman trombone students try to have a lesson with him before starting college.
