Lectures are packed with info. Counter the stress of this by familiarizing with the material beforehand and have questions on deck prior to class. She is very energetic, however has a tendency to plow through info quickly so take the initiative to interrupt her whenever you don't understand. Course relies heavily on critical thinking. Good luck

very hard teacher, deduct your point every minor mistakes in your lab report. LAB is extremely hard and long. Lecture is a nightmare with very wide knowledge, no study guide for exams, and a bunch of handout paper everyday. I dont understand what she said.... dont take this class if you dont want to be exhausted.

I took Chem1A with her last year. Her requirements for assignments is very detailed and she pushes students to learn a lot, such as research. But she is really helpful. I came to her office every other day even at her lunch time but she is always willing to help. I got an A for this class and admire her a lot. Wish she teaches org chem too!

One of the best science teachers I've had. Awesome lectures notes. She really breaks everything down so that you understand. Work is challenging and all details count. I'm so happy I took her class. I felt like I got the best value.

This class is taught at the university level. She is very picky about proper labels and sigfigs. I'm at SCU as a biochem student. I've worked with chem students that don't know how the chem basics. Work hard in this class and it will pay off. She will write letters of recommendation. She is very help. Use the extra time in lab to ask questions.

Even though she's somewhat difficult she makes sure you know your stuff. Chem 1A is a weeder class at any college and will make you quickly know how serious you need to get. Bottom line: Good teacher teaching mostly mediocre students that don't put in effort whom complain too much after they see their grades.

I took her class in 1983 and I am amazed that she is still around. She got me through Chem 1A/1B and I did work very hard, but I loved it. I then went on to UC, to grad school at Yale and to med school. Dr. Hwang, I owe so much of it to you. Stick with her, although she's tough, you'll learn the material well.

DO NOT, under any circumstances take this class. She loves spending time on the nitty-gritty details,(ex: you'll be marked off if you write "Table 1" instead of "Table I"). This takes all the fun out of learning chem. She tries to trick you on the multiple choice tests too. No one in my section got an A. BEWARE!!!

DO NOT take this class.I take most of my classes through UC extension and already have a BA, so I know what hard work is - this class amounts to hours of mindless busywork. You are graded on things you can't control, like how much your alum crystal grew when you left it in the lab for 2 days. This class sucked my love of Chemistry right out of me.

This class is BRUTAL! You will have to work your ass off to earn a B. In my entire class only 2 people were earning As prior to the final, and they were barely at 90%. The quizzes and tests are unfair. She will try to trick you with multiple choice answers that are nearly identical, and will nickel and dime you to death on the labs! DO NOT TAKE!

she is very passionate. all you can tell are she loves chemistry and teaching. she explains every concept clearly, instructs students on how to solve chemistry problems. if you pay attention to her class, take note, especially examples in her lecture outline, it is not hard for you to get an A in her test. her test is basically what she mentions in

toughest professor i've ever had. nearly three quarters of my class dropped and a good portion of the remaining quarter that stuck through the whole semester barely passed. think about that. then again, like everyone else has said, she's an amazing teacher and great practice for those of you who want to go to a UC.

If you didn't do well in Chem 15, this class will be the death of you! Her tests are very difficult and involve a lot of critical thinking - not just understanding basic concepts of chem. The labs are a ton of work - lots of reports to be written and research to do on your own. There is little to no extra credit. You must work VERY hard!
