Comment:
He's a teacher that really does know his history, sometimes his lectures can seem to go on forever but they do have a lot of good information in them. If you don't know the history you probably won't do well on the essays.

He tells good stories and plays video about tycoons. But, to be honest, the class is boring. He talks a lot but it sometimes may not match the on-line course outline. And the GTF is sort of a tough grader on the essay questions.

I love his class, he's a great story teller, you do have to enjoy history to appreciate how good of a teacher is. He's a nice guy and his class is the type that attendance isn't mandatory you can miss a class or two and not get behind, but when you go its always interesting.

Easy class. Just one paper, midterm and the final. There's also sometimes simple quizzes about the weekly readings and short (1 page) papers in section. Not every time though. Lecture slides are online so a lot of people don't show up to class, however he is funny and charming in a grandpa sort of way so I enjoyed his lectures.

Class is pretty easy. Just one paper, a midterm and a final and then little quizzes or short (1 page) papers in section. He posts the lecture slides online so a lot of people don't show up to class, but I always did and he is actually kind of funny and has a certain grandpa-like charm.

Very little structure to his lectures, so its hard to know when you should be paying attention. Can grade harshly, I got 9.5/20 on my midterm essay in which I covered everything he talked about in class and the book it was on...

He was opinionated, rude and impatient. He responded to all of my emails with a sort of impatient and elitist manner. His lectures were boring, he just seemed to ramble. I would not recommend this professor at all.

very nice guy. I like him personally, but his ramblings have nearly nothing to do with the class (though they can sometimes be interesting). He is very liberal and you should be as well. Very tough grader considering he teaches you very little. Skip the classes, read the books and reviews for the tests.

I really liked his lectures. He was fairly easy to listen to, and he added biographies to make the topics more interesting.

Professor Pope is a very good professor that can talk forever. He knows the material very well and conducts each class off of powerpoint, so you could just get them off of blackboard if you missed class. Not very difficult midterm and final, both of them were essays/IDs and one essay on a book make this class easy!

I thought he was a little rude. He freeked out if someone was 5 min late to class and seemed sarcastic. He also didnt seem intrested in how well his students did.

Daniel is truly a gifted professor, as he displays a sharp wit, humor, well planned lectures and passion for what he teaches. Hands down the best history teacher I've had after years of college. The American Radicalism classes so far have been the highlights of my experience at UO. Tests are good as there's multiple subjects to choose write on.

A very easy professor, Pope is, but that's more due to his grasp of the material and his seeming love for his work. In lecture he'll either put you to sleep or make you come away with five pages of notes for an hour long class; it's really up to you.
