Comment:
The core of his lecture is copying note from board, and his handwriting is horrible. Do not have enough practice quesions or examples to demonstrate the material he covered.

Lau is a very smart and knowledgeable person. He is passionate about earthquakes, and is great at teaching about him. His attitude as a professor leaves much to be desired, as he can be condescending, abrasive and rude when asking him questions during class, office hours, or via email. He isnt very compassionate for students.

Comment:
Professor Lau is great at teaching and he taught the concepts of Structural Design really well. His assignments and midterms are marked very easily, however beware of the exam it was pretty brutal. The only reason he does not get 5 out of 5 is because he can sometimes have bad handwriting which is confusing when there are so many formulas to know.

Comment:
Design with Professor Lau was the best. Breaks down everything you will ever need to know for the assignments, midterm and final exam. Spends the first 10-20 minutes of every lecture reviewing the previous one to make sure that everyone understands. The final exam is a marathon compared to the midterm, but it isn't too bad if you study hard for it.

A top tier professor in the Carleton Civil Engineering department. Beyond knowledgeable in regards to structural dynamics, and genuinely cares about imparting the material to students. Always willing to make sure that students comprehend before moving on. Everything you will need for Analysis II is in his lecture notes. Highly recommend.

The best civil engineering professor i have had in my 4years of academic career. Lecture notes are to be treated as the bible of the course. Everything u need to know and will be expected to know are in his lecture notes. Lots of notes to take but very useful.

design with lau was brutal in terms of taking down notes, holy mother of jesus christ we we wrote dozens of pages every lecture, however lau breaks down the material so well, midterms is a fair game but oh boy watch out for that bloody final ,its hectic you either rush it or you will not end up finishing on time, all in all lau is amazing

(Earthquake&Analysis)after taking this course I become familiar with ETABS dynamics analysis parameters. The courseĆ¢€™s assignment requires a lot of effort.DYNAMICS course is a must. Very good transition from what I learned in dynamic course to dynamic application in E.Q.books: Chopra,Humer,5thmariopazStructuralDynamicsTheory. Clough&Penzien.

Very great professor. Different having him in 3rd year compared to 4th year. Mutual respect, and very practical insight in solving problems. Doesn't teach you anything you don't need to know for the real world. Matrix Analysis of Framed Structures..sounds hard? Not with him! Easy A+ if you attend! By far one of the best professors in the Faculty!

For those who have gave really negative feedback... keep in mind that most of those came from "Ecor 1101"... there isnt many people who love that class. His accent is no problem... you just have to listen. And for this class I found that the TA's were brutal in grading compared to Lau.

This prof is HARD 2 understand. He has an accent and yes by the end of the semester you can understand him. As for the quality of the lecture. If your absolutly love this subject and like a good chalenge you might like Lau... I personally didnt understand what he was teaching, he was horrible. I ended going to another profs class (Salinas).

Easily one of my favorite classes...not for love of the subject, nor for respect for the prof...for the inexorable laughs we had everytime he spoke...X-BAAAAAAAR! this guy can't teach, props for being a good engineer, but it takes a different kind of person to teach
