I took Professor Reid over the summer through the trip to Africa and absolutely loved him. The class was online after the trip but spending time getting to know him on the trip was a privilege. He has a lot of amazing stories. Read and write the papers, very straightforward and an amazing guy.

Favorite professor at X. Very important to do the assigned reading because most of the grade is participation in class discussion. Talk to him after class about the books and form a good relationship because he is the nicest and it WILL help your grade. Only two essays all semester and he grades them very fairly. Super enthusiastic and interesting

Don't skip class without telling him. Make sure you participate daily. He is atheist, be prepared for debate regarding religion. He's not really into your reasoning in what you believe. Be ready for him to tell you his political views. Other than that, reading is 30 to 50 pages a night, daily quizzes and there are 2 papers for the class.

ENGL 205- Worst class I've taken in my college career. Discussion Board posts are frequent. You may type a paper length post of your original ideas you may still get no credit. He will criticize you and in no way support any personal beliefs or reflections on reading material. Needs things done his way, but doesn't tell you what that is. GOOD LUCK

Guys, PLEASE listen to the reviews that say he's dismissive, disrespectful, and wants students to do things exactly his way- I didn't and this was the worst class I've ever taken. He constantly belittles students on discussion board posts and then complains about you not posting early enough (I wonder why?!?!). Shouldn't be a professor.

If you are taking ENGL 124 and don't mind reading interesting books with a real purpose take Dr. Reid. There is no final and he is a very easy grader. As long as you do the readings the quizzes are easy. He gives a unique and passionate view on the world and I highly recommend him.

He constantly interrupts students when they talk. He wants people to say/do things in a particular way, not have their own opinions. He was nice, but easily one of the most annoying and useless professors I have ever had.

Can honesty say this is one of the worst professors I have ever taken. He is dismissive of other's beliefs as well as disrespectful towards some students. He seems to have his views of a student set in stone after the second week regardless of how well you do on your assignments. I would not recommend taking him!

Dr. David Reid is an awesome teacher and person. I RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS TO TAKE ENGLISH! He assigned 5 essays and all classes were about understanding what you need to do to create a good paper. No real homework other than the essays and NO TEST EVER! Even though I hate English classes his was truly a joy to take. I would take it again

This guy really loves his subject. He's into the "weird" books (postmodern), but he makes it bearable by being lively in his discussion about it. Be ready to both read and participate to make this class a good one. Some occasional 5 question pop quizzes along with 2 papers over the material covered.

Has you read about 75-80 pages for each class which is kinda tough to keep up with if you have other readings to do in other classes. Plus random pop quizzes and 10 page essay papers. Not the easiest class but if you love to read and get into the deep meanings of every event in books and talk about it for class this is your class.

There is a lot of reading in this class, but it is worth the time and effort. The class is based on participation, 3 papers and pop quizzes. It is a discussion based class so always be prepared to talk about the books. Take him if you can!

Dr. Reid is a wonderful professor. We read a lot of novels and have daily pop quizzes, but his lectures are very interesting. Participation is very important in his class and it can severely affect your grade, so don't be shy! Highly recommend taking studies in fiction with Reid!

Definitely take him if you get the chance. He is a little off of the wall, but a good time/teacher nonetheless. You actually have to do quite a bit of reading and a couple papers, but you watch a lot of movies in class too!

Reid is such a cool guy. Go to class, read the books, participate in class, be loud and joke with him, and go to office hours. He offers the chance for extra credit. On his quizzes even if you don't know the answer but actually read just write down things to show him you read. My favorite professor at XU!

Great Teacher! But you have to work in this class. Don't expect just to get an A. He is pretty helpful but don't expect to just get help if you don't participate.

Comment:
This professor was not helpful at all. His grading breakdowns are ridiculous. If you don't participate much you will automatically do very poorly. He needs to realize this isn't most peoples major and that giving the amount of reading he does, is just not realistic for most.I would not take this professor again or advise anyone to do so.
