Professor Ybarra may seem unconventional, and at times even a bit abrasive, but he does become more likable as the class moved forward. I found that everyone in class improved dramatically by the end of the semester. I would defiantly recommended his class.I would advise you though to read the syllabus thoroughly and follow his instructions closely.

If you really want to learn public speaking and ready to work hard for it, this professor is highly recommended. If you want an easy A and learn nothing, then forget about it! Bottom line is, what you learn from his class can definitely apply to your future formal presentations like no other teacher can do!!! Highly recommended

I would recommend strongly against taking this class. I stayed in it only because I needed the units. There is no structure at all to the class, the teacher does not give clear instructions on assignments, does not answer questions, and then yells at students in front of the class for not doing what he wanted. This class was a headache, avoid!

I don't know how to rate him. His grading seems really random, I got an A yet I failed every quiz and presentation. Other people in the class who did marginally less work than me got a C or worse. He's a cool guy but he doesn't seem to put much effort into teaching. Don't take him if you are trying to keep a 4.0.

Ok, I had to step back after the semester ended so I could be objective. Fact is, I am a better public speaker due to Prof Ybarra. Also fact, he frustrated me the entire semester w/ harsh criticism and inconsistency. You never know your grade & he enforces rules and policies he himself ingnores. I would rec'mnd him if you are TOUGH and disciplined!

I enjoyed the class. He's a teacher who knows stuff, thus no textbook, or quizzes, or tests. Straight to the point. It's fun if your not lazy. I just finished his summer class, hadn't done one of those in a while, but the time flew by. I should be getting an A in the class like I requested ;)

If you are looking for an easy class don't sign up. I got an A, but I had to work at it. His main point is practice, practice, practice. If you do, he will be able to tell.

He tried to intimidate me on the first day, it didn't work. I saw through him, he seems like a nice person, but you might have to dig for it. He is funny, gives confusing directions, gives confusing answers, doesn't always practice what he preaches, has high expectations, YOU WILL LEARN if you stay in his class. He seems dedicated and invested.

Drop it NOW! The only reason I stayed in it is because I needed to Units. He always talks about how he the highest paid teacher at the school. I went to every single class and did all of the assignments and I received a C. In the first weeks of class he says he will teach you more then any other comm teacher. Not true. Get out well you can!

At first Ybarra comes across as a very over bearing, full of himself and cranky old man...and well throughout the whole class it stays that way. BUT, he has the Knowledge & skills to be so! Though he can be intimidating, he's a GREAT professor! Just PAY ATTENTION & read things CAREFULLY!! All the answers are in front of you! You'll learn A LOT!!

Steve was one of the BEST professors I have ever had. I finally felt challenged. There are no easy answers in this class if you are not thinking critically. The thing to learn from this class is to be prepared, don't skip a single class, READ and FOLLOW directions. Think beyond the obvious. It took blood sweat and tears, but I made it, you can too

I was nervous coming into this class. I have never been good at public speaking and was very anxious. Steve made the classroom a very positive and respectful place. He even made it fun. I looked forward to class each day. As for how to succeed? Be prepared! This means coming to class prepared every day. Also pay attention to instructions.

He demands a lot, so if you're looking for a class to get an easy "A" in, keep looking. I did learn, but only because I had an awesome group that was really hard working. He believes in letting you find the answer, donĂ¢€™t expect much help or direction from him. Think outside the box, show up prepared for class and donĂ¢€™t be afraid to challenge him.
