She spoke most of the time and she's hard of hearing! I hear having a deaf professsor is good to immerse your self in the language but she spoke most of the time! We're in ASL 2,She didn't even try in that class! The homework she gave us was irrelevant and Her demeanor was not welcoming

Comment:

Great teacher with a really solid teaching technique. She expects you to study and do well, just like any teacher who cares about her students. If you want to learn ASL and have fun whole doing it, this is the class for you!

by far the worst class ive taken at vc. she has a grudge against hearing people and anything associated with christianity. tests you on things she hasnt taught you. the tutor was deaf & non speaking, making tutoring sessions mostly useless. i can't emphasize enough how incredibly rude she can be. AVOID TAKING HER CLASS AT ALL COSTS!!!

I have mixed feelings. I got an A and I liked her, but I can understand where the neg. comments come from. Pay attention, do your work & study for tests & you can pass the class. She's inconsistent w/grading and she's intimidating, but don't be afraid to speak up. It was a great experience taking ASL from a Deaf teacher. I really learned a lot.

if u are willing 2learn then she is the right teacher 4u. u will learn alot. dont really need ur txt books but she requires u 2 do ur hw in it &sumdays will check it and c if u followed up.tests are ALL about of wat u learned & read in the txt book. everything u go over in class will b in the tests. just pay attention and ull learn alot.

Best teacher ever! Very fun, helpful and learned alot. After taking this class I want to learn more. I read other bad reviews, why do only those who cant follow instructions and want things to be easy to get easy grade complain. I want to learn. IF you want to learn this is the Teacher to have!

I'm in the class right now and after one test, I can see that if you pay attention in class the tests questions will not be a suprise but she is rude. I wonder if she knows that people in ASL 2 are there because they want to be not because they have to be. I hope I can get through this class without her turning me off to sign language.

Most infuriating class I've ever had. Very knowledgeable on subject. Unfortunately, comments are 100% correct, if you're not deaf, if you're a 'highschool student' or don't have a connection to the deaf culture, you'll have a harder time.

she is a tough teacher, very bitter, pretty rude and insulting. if your not deaf, she doesnt like you. i got an a even though i didnt do good on all her tests. weird semester. she is funny though and makes time go by fast

This class totally turned me off to the world of sign language. I felt attacked for being able to hear (she is deaf), and never felt comfortable in her class. I tried. I got a B, but it was not worth the insults. I think she means well, but is a bitter person in general.

If you are serious about learning ASL, take Debbie. She'll teach you good habits from the beginning. She isn't a teacher for people who want an easy class. She's demanding, but she knows her subject.
