Wow, I had this professor in 2004, and all the remarks about him being a coky jerk are correct. He was so nasty to me whenver I asked for help. and his lectures had nothing to do with essays he'd assign.I didn't learn anything.

He is a bit cocky, but very smart. He's a tough grader on the essays, but very helpful. You'll learn a lot about a lot of different things that you've probably heard about before but never gave much thought to, like how an atomic clock works. His ideas sound wacky at first, but they may actually increase your scientific thinking in other classes.

all your grades come from essays so you have to do them even if you dont understand the material write an essay as long as you improve as the semester goes on youll be forgiven for a low grade on the first essay when you dont know what hes looking for

He's very hard. Never satisfied. Expects too much. Very very educated and interesting though, certainly knows the material. I honestly learned alot in his class, but have mixed feelings about the experience. I spent so much time for his class, it's not even funny. So, take his classes only if you have extra time to study.

Judging this guy as a teacher is kind of difficult. My class had 50 students in it, and it was collaboratively taught by Langer and Christopher. Langer did most of the lecturing however. He had some interesting ideas, and his lectures made me think outside of class. A bit holier than thou, however.

On a personal level, this guy is not as bad as many previous posters describe him. However, he has a big ego that he likes to flaunt, and he seems to make interesting topics boring, a huge flaw about his teaching. He does not give finals. Still, if writing is not your forte, don't take this class.
