I highly recommend taking ENT 001 if you have room for it. It's a great GE and Ullman is so kind, and the lectures are very intriguing. The studio portion is a little underwhelming, but for 10 weeks its fine. Also, she says you have "pop quizzes", but she told us before every quiz when we had one. Online final, very easy. Take this class!!

This is an awesome GE for anybody who is intimidated by a full-on art class. Ceramics with Diane was a blast and if you put a lot of effort into your project and talked with her frequently in labudio, she really respects you and is a very sweet lady. Loved her science lectures too, get yourself a professor who can do both!

There are many unannounced pop quizzes during lectures, so go to class! You just need to screen print for a paper project & 4 tiles, and do a presentation. Professor gets irritated when you don't wait for her to show you something individually, even though I already knew how to do it and she already demonstrated. The labudio is pretty cool though.

This class is cool & interdisciplinary with the bonus of giving you tons of GE credits. Labudio is also pretty fun. However, it is WAY too much work for a 3 unit class. It seems like there's something due every time you go to class. There are assigned readings and pop quizzes during lecture. Diane is a fun, enthusiastic lecturer, but can be rude.

Holy cow what a great professor! One terrific GE class to take at Davis. Science majors get an art GE and art majors get a science GE and neither one is out of their element. Pop quizzes are group based. The Lab/Studio part of the class is just phenomenal. The professor, not the TA, was there to help us with the major project. Ullman is terrific!

If you like art but don't want a hardcore studio class, this is the class for you (ceramics sec was hella fun). Plenty of extra labudio hrs. Attendance recommended as some slides aren't that detailed & POP QUIZZES but we got a min or two to talk to neighbors & change answers. Midterm/final study guide Qs were very similar to actual test. Gave EC.

I hated this class. The majority of lectures are from guest speakers who talk about their art. Learning about bugs just wasn't interesting. I stopped attending lecture near the end. The labudio is VERY time consuming and should have made the class at least 4 units. Way too much work for a 3 unit class. Should have taken a different G.E. class.

The lab/studio section should push this class to 5 units, but it was so fun that I didn't mind. Lecture material is very easy, straightforward, interesting, and varied with a lot of interesting guest speakers. I HIGHLY suggest this class for a fun GE even if you think you suck at art, you'll be surprised by how awesome your final piece turns out.

Great class! She didn't teach much. Mostly guest speakers. Nice variety. Labudio was tons of fun! Take home midterms were graded harshly. Expected certain details, but was unclear what details they wanted. TA helped clarify in O.H. Sometimes seems a little rude, other times very nice.

Studio ("labudio", lab-studio) provides easy work, but overall simply too much for a 3 unit class. Nonetheless, the class was fun and I found the lectures extremely interesting. Tests were all very easy, too, very straight-forward.

Overall an awesome class. Professor is very approachable and friendly. Lecture is given twice a week, based primarily on powerpoint slides. Material is pretty interesting and definitely not too hard to understand. Tests are also fairly easy (prof doesn't try to trick you). Art studio was def a lot of fun! Def an easy GE class.

All lectures are on powerpoint slides posted online, so attendance is not a must unless you are truly interested about insects. Plus, it can get a bit dry unless there is a movie/video. A lot of memorization for tests. Try to get Sarah Dalrymple to be your TA for studio; she is super helpful and nice. Overall, an easy GE class.

Awesome class, not very difficult. Very interesting. It's an intro to insect biology/behavior, and how they are used in art and culture. Studio was great, I was in the textiles section. Dr. Ullman brings in guest lectures which is cool, and passes around examples of art. There are fieldtrips. Lecture is powerpoint based, but its ok. take notes.

I really liked her. She's really friendly and is really into what she teaches. The studio sections were probably the funnest. I didn't know anything about art and I had a blast.

The material's easy, just study off the powerpoints. She's very friendly and approachable. The studio sections are also very fun. A very fun class and with an easy "A" too, how much more could you ask for? Hopefully she'll be able to teach this, even with her other responsibilities.
