Comment:
Professor Carranza is tough to "rate." The reason being is, he is a great person out of class, but as professor he needs structure. There is a syllabus provided, but never utilized. In addition , he was always late to class. Class was half hour after the hour and he was always there ten to fifteen minutes before the hour. Not punctual and kept us.

Terrible class. I dreaded going. He was always late, unprepared & didn't stick to the syllabus whatsoever. You must read the book to even understand what the course is about, mind you it is written by him. Its very confusing and he has a thick accent that is hard to understand. He gave us quizzes with only essay questions that he graded harshly.

Maybe he changed his course guidelines because based on the past comments, this class is definitely not easy or fun! Overall, this class is extremely boring, but he sometimes livens up the mood with a few jokes.

D. Carranza is great professor but tends to over indulge in his work away from school. Thus creates issues with his class. Interesting discussions but nothing to really follow. Book is a must for thorough understanding. Most students seemed uninterested and discouraged to be there. The class could be better but this is workable for those lazy peeps

Very nice professor! Wants you to succeed, so he'll help you in any way he can. I found class very interesting not boring at all. 5-6 pop quizzes (if u read then u'll be fine). 2 writing assignments about 3-4 pgs (piece of cake). And an 8pg final. Take him! He's awesome!

Not really a good professor at all, is almost ALWAYS late, unless he is being reviewed by another teacher. attendance is important. Got assigned 3 papers on a Friday that was due on a Monday, Very unorganized and never passes back papers. Granted some parts are easy, but you never know what you are getting in his class. Beware!

Very easy. But doesn't seem like he knows what he's doing. He comes in and talks about RANDOM things. No real lecture plan. He always delays things. Told us we'd have 3 weeks to work on the final and it'd be on the enviornment. He only gave us one week and it's on the history of two countries. Easy class but just annoying to go to.

Prof. Carranza is one of the best CAS prof. at CSUN. He knows his stuff...and gets along very well with his students. Go to class, do your readings and weekly papers and you'll do fine. He and I are both Salvadorans so every chance he got to ask about El Salvador he would ask me. Befriend him and you'll pass.

I can honestly say he is probably one of the nicest people/prof. I have ever had in my life and I can talk about immigration reform and liberation theology w/anyone now. On the flip dont count on getting too many assignments back and we didn't really go over that much...but he is a genuinely nice, smart and caring person which is hard to come by...

He is truly knowledgeable about the topic and demonstrates great passion for it. You will learn. Minor quizzes, two papers, no midterm or final exam. A lot of reading but it is not necessary to do all of it to pass the course with a good grade. I highly recommend him if you have an interest in the material.

Lectures can be interesting, but it helps to be interested in the class topic. Huge reader, but not really a need to read it. Only required to read articles to be used in papers. He is a laid back guy, a kewl Salvi professor.
