One of the best professors I have ever had. English is one of my worst subjects and I did well in his class. It's not an easy A, you have to work, but the grading is fair. Very willing to help you out if you are having trouble. Great guy all together.

This class is a really great, fun class, especially if you have to take a CAPP class. HOWEVER do not(!) take this class if you are only interested in zombies because of The Walking Dead. You will be very bored. You need the books, but normally only a tiny section per book is used. Try to borrow or rent. Prof Comentale is amazing, smart, & funny.

One of the best teachers that I have ever had. Incredibly funny and definitely knows what he is talking about. The class is not easy, but if you read and take notes and pay honest attention, you should be fine

He is a wonderful professor, very nice and helpful. I enjoyed going to class just to hear him speak. But it was not an easy A. We over analyzed EVERYTHING.I believe it was graded harder than an entry level class should be. The test material was unclear and we only had 50 minutes to write 2 essays and answer multiple choice. LOTS OF READING as well.

He is ridiculously cute; everything about him. He is super nice and down-to-earth. His lectures are very interesting and he makes his students really want to learn. I definitely recommend taking at least one of his courses.

Prof. Comentale is one of the better professors I've had at IU. He is extremely helpful and gave me really good feedback on my writing and even took time to meet me outside of class to talk about graduate school. Super nice, modest, down-to-earth guy.

First off, this guy is a closet genius. His office is practically overflowing with all the books he's read not only on lit, but on psychology and far-out stuff like critical race theory. He REALLY knows his stuff and does a great job of relating all these things to the novel or topic at hand (music, genres, whatever) - and he's clear, at that.

I love analyzing literature but we blatantly over-analyzed much of the assigned readings in this class. This professor is a cool guy but was an ineffective teacher.

If you have the opportunity to take a class with this professor do so. The class was not an easy "A", but if you attend lecture and read the material then you can at least get a "B". This professor is very helpful, really loves what he teaches, and makes the class interesting. Only negative: required movie nights not mentioned prior to enollment.

Ed is one of the best instructors I've ever had the pleasure of being taught by and I would recommend him over and over again to both literature majors and those simply looking to take a literature class. He's an awesome professor and an extremely interesting intellectual.

Interesting class, but this professor is self-absorbed. Also, while I did well in his class, I felt that his comments on my work were dependent on his mood and how busy he was. I agree with the student who said that he is less open-minded than he would have you believe. Take a diff. class - the English Dept. has better professors.

Literary Modernism - Dr. Comentale was my favorite professor of all time. Unbelievably brilliant, engaging, and into his subject. Stellar. Flawless. (To say nothing of his GQ hotness!)

My favorite teacher in my 3 years at IU. Really interesting and a great guy if you are actually interested in discussing what he's teaching. A little self indulgent but overall a brillant teacher. Definitely take his Brit. Lit. Subculture class.

He talks A LOT, but overall L346 was a good class. If you work hard (and make sure he knows it...go to his office hours) the class is not bad. He's easy on the eyes, too. :)

Comment:
One of the most pretentious, nonsensical courses I've ever taken was his literary modernism class. Seems like a decent guy, but as a professor he is way to into the sound of his own voice. If you appreciate rationality, steer away from this one.
