Ed Miller is the best Professor at UWSP. No Political Science professor prepared me better for going from Capitol Hill unpaid intern to Chief of Staff in seven years. Take his classes before he retires. Paul Blocher, Class of 2003

Your entire grade is 3 exams. However, extra credit opportunity that adds 2% to your final grade! Horrible lecturer. He will show up to class five minutes late everyday and make you stay after class is supposed to be over. He rambles on about random things. If you have the chance, take this class online, not in person. Extremely boring in person.

Extremely dry lectures. Often, he spends 30 minutes on a single slide and goes off on tangents about irrelevant topics. His monotonous voice and absence of humor (his jokes can't even be called jokes) make this class extremely difficult and impossible to pay attention. Your grade is determined by only 3 test scores, so have fun with that...

Ed Miller is a man of knowledge, however he also gets side tracked very easily. On multiple occasions he spent 30 minutes talking about something not relevant to that day, then spend the remaining 20 minutes on one slide. The exams are curved well, but be ready to teach yourself a lot, as you go through his concept sheets you'll be looking up a lot

Gets off topic easily which made it really easy to justify skipping lectures. Exams are difficult if you skip though.

whatever you do, take this class online. really hard, over the summer it would be much easier with notes. 55% class average on first exam. 3 tests are the entire grade.

I had Ed Miller for Educational Policy. He is a legend! He makes you work for your grade but he is an honest grader and will push you to make sure your information is accurate and insightful. Attend lectures and take notes---some of my college highlights were quotes he's said in class. He's an institution in of himself. Highly recommended!

Comment:
Prof. Miller is a character. He's easily distracted during lecture, but has a surprisingly excellent memory, especially for anecdotes about public policy. He will assign readings from the book but these are largely supplementary -- just take good notes in lecture and his exams are pretty straightforward, although certainly not to be taken lightly.

Horrible professor. Talks about random stuff during class about subjects that are irrelevant to the class. Exam questions also do not even make sense. If you can avoid him do so.

Gets off topic easily so it's hard to know what information is relevant. Hard to come to for help in the class. Go to class, read the books, and best of luck teaching yourself!

He tries hard, but goes off on tangents that are irrevalent. He tends to put his own political beliefs ahead of the course material.

Pretty Easy class but whenever he had the chance, he would bash the political party he doesn't affiliate with. To me, I would rather that a teacher kept his interests to himself.

I had taken a class with him online and it was a really great experience. There is A LOT of reading but his lectures and slides cover the basics of what you need to know. His tests were essays and were take home so very easy to handle. I enjoyed the class a lot.

It is hard for me to pay attention in this class sometimes. I feel like I learn more when I read the text books. If you can manage to pay attention and take good notes the class would probably be ok. He does have a sense of humor which is a plus.
