Amazing teacher! I had her for 2 classes, she is a wonderful lecturer. Very upset that she is retiring because she is one of my favorite teachers at UMD. Not only does she teach, but she cares for all of her students.

Midterm and final are simply definitions and recognition of people and terms. Straight from lecture, no textbook used. The 3 2-page papers were actually hardest part of class, I am a verbose writer and the page limit heavily restricted me, was hard to be concise and to the point. Beowulf, Prince, Western Attitudes Towards Death were the books used.

best history teacher i ever had. Made me want to come to class. I never expected my history class to be my favorite class. Very clear on what she wants on the essays(which are fairly short.) Show up. pay attention. take the notes and study them before the final and you'll do fine. I'm actually sad class is over.

Very good professor and a very interesting class. She get's students involved in discussion. That being said the class was hard, I had 85 pages of single spaced typed notes by the end of class and I couldn't keep up. Make sure to do your reading too.

I love this class! It's incredibly clear that Professor Clark loves what she does. Sometimes a few people linger after class, just for extra discussion. Grading is relatively easy. Her lectures are her own, she doesn't go straight from the book. Mid-term and a Final, 2 papers, and summaries (which only have to be 1 page)of the textbook.

Elaine is a brilliant historian and a fantastic public speaker - she keeps the entire class fascinated with whatever she is talking about. She is an easy grader who points out positive as well as negative things on people's papers, which I find more helpful than strictly criticism. I actually look forward to her wonderful lectures.

Extremely subjective grader on papers. Was actually rude enough to talk loudly with a few students about subjects that were completely unrelated to the course while some of us were still finishing up our final exams. Gives mini-quizzes at the end of many class sessions, so not attending will hurt your grade. All in all, I wouldn't recommend.
