Comment:

This class was pretty good, some boring articles here and there but the debates are extremely fun. However, I really cannot say enough about Dr. Fones-Wolf as a person. I'm an engineer, but I was really debating switching majors. I emailed her during the summer and she ended up calling me and discussing my options. Just a wonderful person!

Fones wolf definitely knows her history, however, that doesn't mean she can teach a 200+ class. Her class made it hard for me to like history again and you DEFINITELY need your textbook. Her assigned articles were hard to read and her tests were very broad. But if you put in effort and she sees that you're trying, you'll most likely get a low B

This is one of the best classes I've ever taken! I loved her so much I asked her to be my advisor. She's so helpful and she really wants everyone to pass her class and she's willing to help you whenever you need it. She's awesome! Definitely take her class.

Comment:

Loved it. If you are in a 400-level history class, you should know how to use grammar. That is why she grades papers for grammar. 2 tests, 2 papers, some pop quizzes, and discussion points. She's not easy but makes the class interesting. She asked me to share a story with the class so she does let students share opinions.

This teacher is harsh with grades. I received worse grades for my grammar than history in papers. As for her lecture, I took a lot of notes, most of which were not needed for the tests. Don't bother asking a question or sharing an anecdote with the class, because either she'll say "We'll come back to that" or just ignore you altogether.

i hated history until i took this class....prof fones-wolf made the classes interesting (or as interesting as history could be)...her grading was fair and she gave u everything u needed to know...if u didn't understand what she taught then u were prolly too lazy to do the readings for that week...she is absolutely amazing and really knows her stuff

This was not a lecture course, but a seminar. I never had a seminar as good as this one. She was always prepared. She made the readings interested. There were a lot of reading, but that was the challenge. Thanks for the great course.

Dr. Fones-Wolf is very helpful and loyal to her students, although she has to deal with so many at once. She rewards diligence with good grades, and she makes concessions for those who are striving. She has definite political views, but tries very hard to respect divergent opinions.

I had her for lecture and she was also my discussion leader. EXCELLENT PROFESSOR--probably one of the best at WVU. People need to realize how hard it is to teach a class of 200+ students. She gives test questions ahead of time (only lazy people do bad). One of the best at WVU.

she is a very bad teacher. i did not learn a think in that class all year. she will go on a rant at any given moment and we will acomplish nothing over that class period. the class seems to last forever also. she needs to have more grades also. you mess up on one then you are screwed

Lectures seem like they last forever! Only gives Midterm, a final and one paper, lots of your grade depends on attendance. If you go and make Bs on the test then you will most likely pull an A. Lots and lots of reading each week. Its managable but hard at 830am!

She is one of the worst professors on this campus. I found her to be well-informed but not an effective teacher (researcher maybe) but she is NO PROFESSOR. Unless she likes you, which is rare, you have to struggle to grasp anything important in her style
