Sherman singe handedly made me swear off the Northeastern finance department. He asks questions in lectures then routinely mocks and belittles students who answer incorrectly, but forces students to participate as it is 12% of their grade. His exams are impossible and if you go to him to ask questions about what you missed he yells at you.

He is a great professor. His lectures are really interesting and he clearly understands all of what he is talking about. Lots of experience so know the practical side to the theory. Gives you extra 2% for showing up to every class mid-term + final & numerous papers, so you gotta work for an A but you learn a lot.

The best finance professor at Northeastern. Harvard Business School educated and understands finance on a fundamental level. He takes class concepts and teaches students how to go a level deeper. This is a great class if you want to learn.

I have never understood the poor feedback towards Sherman. He is the only professor I have ever had that actually sparks interest. He doesnt care about calculations, he cares about you getting it, which is what matters in the long run. He has answered questions for hours outside of class, even when I wasnt enrolled in school. Sherman is amazing

Lectures can be tough to pay attention to, but makes relevant connections. Slow speaker, so taking notes while he speaks isn't hard at all. Allows a 1-sided note sheet on all tests (just a midterm and final). Gives +3% on your final grade if you go to every class. Very reasonable and rational, but you'll fall far behind if you don't read nightly.

An experienced Finance professional and can talk a lot about real-life examples. No powerpoints, no notes, only open discussion based class/lecture. Helps you understand the concept applications, but the approach many times contradicts with book material, which you must cover on your own to complete HW. Grading is tough and not always clear why.

He spent a lot of time talking about his past experience and ultimately made class very boring. His tests are extremely hard and he can be very misleading about what is to be expected, and most of it is not based on what you learn during lectures. You do have a lot of chances to get extra credit in class. I would not recommend him overall however.

Do yourself a favor and do not take this class. All he talked was some real world experience he had. Well, his exams had nothing to do with what he really talked. Taking this class was my mistake.

He is steep in practical experience so don't expect a normal theoretical professor. You will learn a lot but you will also suffer a lot because while you can prepare for a theory test, the answers to practical problems are fuzzy. He won't prep you for any equations in the book, he'll just assume you already understand all the theories already.

Is knowledgable about the finance industry and financial topics. Is also very knowledgeable about tax(not related to class material). Lectures can be a bit long and dry but if you go to him with an inquisitive mind he can be very helpful. Grading is tough.

Do not take Sherman's class! He completely destroyed my interest in Finance! He is the worst professor I have ever had so far! Didn't teach anything from the textbook and put a lot of stuff we have never learnt on the exam, which turned out to be a huge disaster for the whole class. Do youself a favor and choose anyone but Sherman! You will regret.

DO NOT TAKE SHERMAN. He does not teach in class, instead, talks about a bunch of inconsequential stories. He sends you home with problems that are impossible, it'll take you almost the entire night to solve it. Try taking someone else, this class was definitely not worth it.

This professor doesn't seem like he's hard at first but he makes corporate finance difficult. He expects you to know so much without teaching. All his classes are vaguely talking about topics (monotonous) and his personal experience. He never teaches what is going to be on the exams which are always very tough.

It happens that a teacher you like becomes someone you dislike. That's Sherman to me. I've taken many classes with him. At first he was a genuine, caring, and nice person. Sadly, he's changed for the worst: he never replies to emailscalls, his classes are really monotonous, he's not as friendly as before, his grading has become brutal... a shame

Taking his class was the best investment of my life! His homeworks will scare you, but when you come out of this class with an A (or at least a B- coz its impossible to fail his class unless you're lazy) you will know it was all worth it. He made me fall in love with finance, a subject I always feared. Just make sure you study. That's the key!

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take Sherman for Corporate Finance. If you like endless and repetitive lectures about Corporate Governance and boring stories, take him. However, if you want to learn about actual Finance theory and application, you won't find it here. He OMITS valuation and other important topics completely. Doesnt prep you for exams

By far the best professor I've had at NEU. Even if you are the dumbest kid its hard to fail this course with all the extra credit. Homeworks are hard but he grades leniently. Aplia is an easy A with his rules and just attend class and you get extra credit. He will change the way you look at finance. Just never miss an aplia or class and study!

Funny & respectable professor. He has tons of experience in the finance field and tells stories about his experiences in the field. He never gives you an answer for your question, he wants the student to go and look for everything without taking anything for granted. His exams are VERY hard but the curve make them look a bit better.

Sherman is a nice guy, and when he speaks, you can tell he is genuinely passionate. However, lectures are theoretical; no work or notes. Then tests end up being all numbers, but, he grades with a very fair curve. Lecture can be extremely boring as it is all theory, but he challenges you to think hard.
