He's such a diva, I adore him. If you take notes in class and do most of the reading you'll do fine on tests. The essays were easy. He knows a lot about French history and art. Pay attention, come to class, and you'll be fine. Haskell has a fun personality too!

I love Professor Haskell! He's the coolest. Don't be scared by weird reviews because he's such a great man with an incredible sense of humor and he really cares! He knows so much about his subject matter and is always happy to meet with students outside of class.

Haskell is prone to angry and inappropriate outbursts when students don't do their work or prepare properly for class or (worst of all) speak english. He is justified being angry but wait until after class! He can be sassy and animated and such a hard grader. I studied a lot and worked hard and got a B- (barely). Kinda messed up my gpa. grr

This class was dreadful. Preparing for quizzes is nearly impossible (and that is the entire grade). When I told him I had a hard time predicting what was on them his response was "you can do it." (not helpful) Went from getting an A in french 22 to probably getting a C or C- in french 33. Do not take this class unless you are fluent in french.

Haskell is very intense but nice. He gets everyone to talk whether you want to or not. The last half of the semester we read a very challenging play but he helped us understand it. He's a good teacher but be ready to put in a lot of work if you want an A or even a B.

Haskell is very enthusiastic and hilarious. I never dread going to class at 9:35am! His theatrical performance in class keeps the information (which can be dry at times) interesting. His tests are a little difficult to predict but just read the book/additional books. TAKE NOTES! it is crucial to go to class. I loved this course. highly recommend

Comment:

Prof. Haskell is one of the best teachers I've had. All of his lectures are incredibly engaging, even in the morning. He makes French culture and history more manageable and easy to understand. Plus he is hilarious. The only problem is that he is a bit intimidating, but really his class is so worth it.

Haskell has a weird accent that made it difficult more me to understand his lectures, especially after listening to a native-speaking Saigal a few hours before. He is very knowledge, but sometime class is really redundant. (It's a comfortable chair! I get it) I so glad that I don't have to take anymore classes with him.

He is such a sweet man. His lectures are very interesting and exciting. He really brings the material to life. In terms of grades, you have to listen, take notes, and have some writing skills. He is very willing to help you improve your skills however. Your first essay grade will probably be your lowest grade. You'll improve from then on.

Great guy. Hilarious and knows his****. Teaches material with sass and grandeur! Never learned more about french history and culture as I did in his class. He is so much of an expert, he guided us through the Getty and the Nort-Sim and gave us a complete tour in French of the exhibits

He can be a bit arrogant, but is a good teacher. He likes to lecture but his lectures are funny, interesting, and flow really well. He's really knowledgeable about this subject. However, he does play favorites. There's a very specific type of student he likes and if you don't fit into that model, then you will not get an A.

He has favorites. Either you're one of them or you're not. And the consequences of such are astounding. Grading is arbitrary. Has a very skewed image of the French, even for an American. Pity Scripps loves him so and Nathalie, the actual French person, isn't even a full-fledged Professor after all her years here . . .

Haskell is a creepy ****. Even if you work extremely hard (like I did) and deserve an A, you won't get one. He does not give more than one A per year and you probably have to date his son to get that. Take this class at your own risk.

If you are passionate about the subject matter you will love having him, he will help you very much, but if you are not interested than he will come off as arrogant. His courses were my favorites at Scripps
