Dunlop is an exceptional professor. He is tough to warm up to at first & he will make you work yourself harder than most teachers. He gives good feedback as long as you communicate a lot with him. Use your foundation design semester as a simulation a for client you're trying to make commissions for & you'll be successful. Craftsmanship is KEY.

Professor Dunlop is a professor that actually cares about how you do in the class. As long as you apply his critiques to your projects and have neat craftsmanship, he will give you an A. Although he does pick favorites a little, he is overall a very fair professor and is very understanding if you talk to him.

At first, he seems pretty distant and you can't quite get the read of if he likes you or not. After the quarter is up, he becomes much kinder and really will show his interest in your projects. He pushes your designs to the next level and actually gives great feedback. Take him and you'll know if graphic design is for you.

I had Dunlop for my Foundations Drawing and Foundations Design studios. He has favorites and it took us about a semester to warm up to each other, but he's a really great instructor. He gives great critiques and will help you as much as possible as long as you step up and ask. High standards (tough grader), but you learn a ton.

Dunlop was my biggest challenge coming into GDES. When I took him for Design I, I thought he hated me because of the grades I got. But I took him again for Design II and my grades improved DRAMATICALLY. Design I is boot camp with him, but I think he just tries to get people to drop, so don't give up. He's a genuine person who cares about you.

Dunlop was the one of the hardest professors I've had this far at Auburn, and honesty I was pretty intimidated by him at first. He tells it like it is, grades hard, expects a lot, but he will teach you SO MUCH about design. He's actually a very nice man too; he truly cares about his students.

He can be intimidating at first but his critical feedback is vital for the courses that come ahead. It may seem like "his way or the highway", but honestly he is preparing you for a professional field. He challenges you. Looking back, I wish I had more teachers that would do this rather than simply giving you a B on completion.

All you have to do to succeed in this class is submit well-crafted work. Did you smudge? Do it over. Is your cut a little jagged? Do it over. It honestly doesn't matter if your design is unexciting as long as you put the time and effort into making it look its best to get you a B. Additionally exciting work gets an A

I did well under Professor Dunlop because I quickly understood what he wanted. I really got his teaching style and learned to appreciate his comments and expertise. He is extremely helpful and it is clear that he cares that his students create good design. He is also very easy to reach by email. As with anything, you just have to work at it.

Dunlop is a "his way or the highway" type of professor and does not really take into consideration your artistic vision, unless you force it and convince him. He is very straightforward with what he does and does not like and will be sure you know it. Be prepared for long nights and mental breakdowns. Hard class but beneficial in the end

Makes you work for it but worth it in the end. The class is about understanding graphic design basics not personal expression or style developement. Once you get over that the class gets better. He likes you if you had him for design 1 and he's a morning person. Explain your thought processes thoroughly.

He's a great designer and will make your understanding of graphic design better. He is extremely tough; I've never worked so hard to come out with a B, but he's always there for advice and to help when you get stuck. Get ready to work harder than you ever have, but it really is a beneficial class and he's a great teacher.

Dunlop is an amazing designer. He will make you better and push you to be better. This class was super hard though because he now counts craftsmanship twice and he isn't a pushover. If you go to his office hours it will help!!

Get ready for one hard semester. I am an A student and I love art, but I have never worked so hard in my life to end up with B's on everything. He's tough, but very helpful. He says exactly what he likes and doesn't like. He challenges you, but you will be a better student because of it. Just get ready to have at least one meltdown per semester

Dunlop's foundation classes are "his way or the highway," and he isn't afraid to admit it. "His way" is very helpful in understanding basic concepts in design. He is very intimidating at first, but once you get to know him, he's a really great guy. Taking his classes will help you later in the program.

Overall it was a great class. I have never worked SO hard in my life!! Dunlop pushes you to a level you never thought you'd go to... but he knows his stuff. He can be harsh, but just know he only says it because he wants you to improve. I would definitely suggest taking him for foundation!!

If you have the chance to take him for your 2D and 3D foundation courses you must! His class isn't easy but you will learn so much. He really does prepare you for a future in graphic design. It doesn't seem like it at first but all the concepts he teaches are critical. You will have to spend many hours on projects but the outcome is worth it!
