Comment:
Great and entertaining teacher. He might engage in sophistry at times, but what I learned in his class I have been able to apply to many other courses, particularly English classes. I found Gary to be extremely helpful and easy to get in contact with outside of class. The course and Gary are not for the easily offended, which he is upfront about.

This class went beyond learning rote information. This class gave truly insightful knowledge to me that will last a lifetime. Although not for everyone, Thomas' lectures are deep and intriguing. Take this class if you genuinely want to learn.

The best teacher I have had. He actually encourages people to think, and treats everyone like they are on the same level as him. You have to go to class in order to do good. Critiques: None when i had him for Gay Men & Homophobia in the American Culture. But for Comedy in Text and Theory - the multiple choice on the exams were often unfair in my opinion, and the TA's did not always grade the same.

Tests are rediculous, notes are all over the board and he is hard to follow. I would not recommend him unless you are into cultural studies or are willing to put the effort into learning a lot of theory.

Hes a hard teacher. That's all there is to it. Half the time I had no idea what he was talking about. The tests are ridiculous. Sometimes he didn't even know how to fully answer the question. He writes crap all over the board and just... dont take it unless youre into cultural studies. Good luck.

I don't know who everyone else is kidding, this guy was horrible. If he didn't put you to sleep with his lecture you were usually weirded out by his "lifestyle" choices. Would recommend no one take a class with this guy ever.

He's a smart guy, no doubt about it, but he knows nothing about teaching. He teaches the class as if he is speaking at his own book signing, spouting off about his opinions that, a lot of the time, don't pertain to the class. In a word: pretentious. But hey, I guess some people like that.

tests can be hard, but if you pay attention in class they aren't too bad. he's a great guy, as long as you take him with a grain of salt. i learned a lot in his class, and defaintely reccommend it - i had a good time.

this class is the worst i have ever had. not funny. he is incredibly dry and boring. too much philosophy. he doesn't care if his students understand him, and gives hard tests. one multiple choice question went to letter M. he tries too hard to sound smart

I thought the class was going to be funny, but it sucks most of the actual humor out of comedy. This is a rigorously scholarly, dry class. He's a very knowledgeable teacher, and likes the students. He can be a little brutal in his efforts to entertain.
