Comment:

The ONLY thing I liked about this teacher was that she was good at responding to e-mails. Other than that my weeks during the semester were filled with copious amounts of busy work. Her instructions were always unclear.. At first you may seem overwhelmed by the work load. Just look on her weekly announcements every week and it helps.

The introduction is convoluted but once you learn her online format & style it is easy to understand. The course involves a lot of reading & in order to effectively respond to the weekly discussions you "must" do the reading. RESPONDUS LOCKDOWN browser is used for testing. You cannot access any files or readings online. You will learn a lot.

Took professor Gao for COMM 155I. She was a tough grader! She definitely want you to be detailed in your assignments and she asks for a lot for a little amount of points.

Comment:

Although it is a bit more demanding and challenging than other courses, it's totally worth it. There's one extra credit opportunity, do not pass this one up as it is almost essential if you want to get an A. There's a variety of assignments that make this course interesting and engaging, and I can say I definitely learned a lot. Would recommend.

I took her 173 F online course. It was a decent amount of work, what I originally had expected from a fully online course at SJSU. She was very helpful whenever I asked a question. The assignments were definitely do-able and I never really felt too overwhelmed. You WILL have to work for your grade but it is not too hard. Would take her again.

Had prof Gao for two courses this semester. (COMM 175F and COMM 155I) Both courses were tough because they require a lot of work. (Lots of reading and assignments)but I found her be extremely approachable. I would email her 2-3 times a month and she responded within 24 hours each time!! Lots of work but she's an amazing prof overall! Grades: A-/B+

nonverbal communication is absolutely the worst class experience of my life. she should not be allowed to call herself a teacher because she does not teach. I can't call her an instructor got terrible instruction. This was the worst class. constant meaningless busywork. I only wish I could see her in person to let her know how bad her course was.

3 words: Too Much Work. Too busy schedule killed my motivation. Exams were not fair (1 min per question) especially for ESL students who aren't quick readers.

Lots of busy work! I worked harder in this class than I did in two other online comm classes combined. But then I was allowed to basically bomb the final and still get an A-. If you stay on top of your stuff (assignments due Tuesday and Friday), you'll be fine. Taking her for senior seminar next semester. Should be interesting.

I took this class onine Sp 2010, and she apparently did away with this "ToolKit." I disagree with all the negativity though. I got perfect scores on 98% of the work and she left comments on 99% of my work for an explanation. She is not hard. I got an A. It is busywork but that's the point; to rework your previous essays and make your eportfoiio.

For a Communication Studies professor, she does NOT communicate well. This was an online class, and she does respond on time to your email questions BUT does not answer your questions. Save yourself some trouble, take someone else's class. She's very rude and blunt and makes what should be a fairly easy assignment difficult

As everyone stated below, this class made my senior year complete hell. She constantly changed her mind and deadlines on assignments. She expected people to use this stupid computer program with no help. She was confused herself and could not answer Q's. She graded harshly and did not explain why. This was her 1st time teaching Com199. Do not take!

She is unclear and is a horrible professor. Her work can be simple then how she would explain. She makes assignment more difficult then it should be. Overall, she is not the best teacher who does not care for her students to succeed

Many of my classmates and I felt this was a difficult class because we were frustrated by Gao's inability to make assignments clear and having to use KeepToolKit for assignments - which wasn't explained clearly-she expected all students to be techno-savvy. She "seems" helpful but her grading is brutal. I also think this class was busywork. Yechhh
