Chen teaches straight from the book. He covered the concepts thoroughly (but not clearly), but failed to cover the fine details needed to solve assigned problems. He only assigned 4-5 assignments. Don't love hw, but how else are you supposed to know which concepts are the most important? How else do you get feedback? Very poor teaching quality.

Learned more from the AISC steels manual than from this guy. the best part of this class was the sweet red and gold sweater than Chen wore at least twice a week.

I saw that Dr. Chen had a frowny face, so I just had to leave a message. It's been a really long time since I had him for Steels, but I thought he taught the class really well. His English is not bad and he seems to be concerned about our comprehension.
