Comment:
Best professor at St.Rose that I ever had. I learned a ton about classroom management. Tough and firm but fair and highly knowledgable. I highly recommend this professor if you are serious about teaching, espcially in a challenging teaching environment such as an inner-city school. I will never forget Dr. Allen.

This class was more work than all my others combined. Dr. Allen expects you to learn from the text and then he gets deeper into certain parts in class. He seems to have ridiculous expectations for the case analyses, which I did not find helped my understanding and were generally a waste of time. You will learn but expect to work hard for an A.

Jim Allen is not interesting especially at 8am. He has you do a learning journal of all your assignments. I would not recommend him.

If you want to slack off don't take this class, expect to work hard. Pay attention, take notes, read the assigned readings and you will be fine. He is a very interesting teacher, class was never dull. You will learn a ton in his class.

Jim is a very intelligent professor who teaches with enthusiasm. His seriousness of purpose can be intimidating at first, but I found that it serves its purpose - you learn so much from this class. Furthermore, while he may have the reputation of being a tough professor/grader, you will find that you leave his class with a wealth of knowledge.

Dr. Allen was very scary at first, but he lightened up a lot during the semester. He is a very intelligent man and knows what he is teaching. You NEED to read a lot and write essays and the final is INTENSE. But overall I did very well in his class, and honestly I can say that I have learned the most from this class than any other so far.

Started out liking him-writing intensive & a lot of work, but very smart. He went back on his word to our class about something we voted on as a class, and also moved up all our assignments to one day because he was going on vacation. Be careful-he had us fill out our surveys of him before doing the aforementioned... coincidence?

At first I thought he was so tough, but really he was so fair and knowledgeable. Everything he did was exactly what he said he would do, he really taught me some skills for teaching that I had never thought of before. Probably the most important class I have taken at Saint Rose. He was always willing to help and change his ways to tailor the class

A lot of work! Grading is not based on the syllabus he provides at the beginning of the semester. Very disappointing!

A lot of writing, but it is writing intensive. I went into my ATS-W fully prepared for the ed. psych questions. I would suggest to take the class with him if you can
