I notice many people defend him, but clearly did not take his 1101 class. He was one of the worst profs, and don't say "oh it's just a hard course," I took it in the summer and it was actually taught well. He seems like a nice guy, but he just doesn't teach anything and didn't take any notes, just did examples on the board the WHOLE semester.

His explanations weren't clear enough. He was all over the place in my opinion. Some people could handle him, just not for me.

great prof... it was a tough course... all abstract and no application. Very flexible deadlines, there to help when you need it, and fair marking.

NOTE: most people do not care about ECOR 1101. Hartley is a good prof... though he may go too fast sometimes in class (ie expecting us to do bending moment diagrams on the top of our heads like he can). He does write fair midterms and exams... and is fair on assignments. Though it is a hard course.

Holy sh*t, pal! For the lectures I showed up to, I sat there either ignoring him or wondering just what the hell he was talking about. He doesn't explain ANYTHING. I learnt almost exclusively from the textbook throughout the year and I'm confident that I got an A+ in the class. I suggest you do the same.

Very nice guy. Fairly good teacher. Not always the clearest prof. Go to his office and ask for help and he is always very happy to explain even if he has to do it ten times before you get it. Hope to have him again. Very nice guy. Hard course though.

Didn't find this prof. very helpful and profficient in teaching first year mechanics. However, he IS a very very nice person and an evident expert in the field. But... you really have to dig out all the information yourself in order to nderstand material fully.

He was a good guy but he always blasted through the material but if you paid attention and did the homework problems then the class is decent. Always willing to explain things after class which was good but it's true that most of his examples didn't help.

You have to learn the concepts from the text before you go to class, then you can follow his examples. Otherwise, prepare to be completely lost

He should update his notes and try explaining examples. Seems like a friendly guy but can't teach well...learned everything from the text.

good teacher, but goes way too fast. You take about 6 pages of notes a class and he barely explains any of it. Tests are somewhat easy if you do the homework since they're out of the book. Not too bad at all!

Comment:
Tests are fair. Questions are pulled right out of the book. However class notes are useless. He tries to apply his old notes to the new course/book. So the examples from class don't help AT ALL when you do the homework or tests.
