She is a great professor! She is very enthusiastic and cares for her students like a mother. She gives daily homework, and although she does not check it, it really helps on the tests! If you put the effort in you can get an A in her class.

Comment:

I've had her for 2 semesters now, for LI 111 and 112 (levels 1 & 2 in italian). She is such a nice and fun woman and teacher. She is truly dedicated to her job and making sure that her students learn. She is also good about not calling on people who clearly don't want to be called on, but encourages you to try even if you aren't very good. So good!

Sweetest woman on the planet. Truly motherly to her students and prepares you well for all the exams. Exams are relatively straight forward. She encourages talking and participation in class. Brings in italian food and games to play in addition to the lessons. Would take a class with her again in a heartbeat.

Great teacher. Even though my class was at 8 a.m., she kept the class fun. She's very helpful, and if you study, you'll do fine. She is also very willing to help if you make the attempt.

This is a woman who LOVES her job! She really wants you to succeed and is so accommodating for extra help. As long as you do the work and study regularly, it's a fairly easy class. And because she is from Italy, she'll tell you about inaccuracies in the textbook, and when words listed aren't commonly used anymore. One of my favorite professors.

The nicest and sweetest woman you will ever meet who goes out of her way to help you succeed. She teaches Italian with such passion and enthusiasm that you can't help but feel the same about it. I wish she taught Ital. 3 so I could have her again!

She is so great! Not only is she a great teacher, but she always has little random facts about Italian culture that she shares with you. If you pay attention and study a little, you'll find the class easy and enjoyable. Plus, her accent is so great (and understandable!).

She use to be passionate about the language but this semester she lost it. Class seemed pointless because all the material was in the book and we hardly ever got a chance to speak. She was a great teacher before so maybe she just had a difficult semester. But she took a subject I loved and made it difficult to go to class.

Giovanna is the BEST! Easily the best teacher I've had at BU. She is so funny and likable I not only enjoyed going to class but actually looked forward to it. I miss her so much I would take Italian over the summer just to see her on a daily basis. If you're going to take italian.. take giovanna.. except no substitutes!!!!! Her accent is adorable!!

BEST professor I've had at BU.INCREDIBLY helpful, always a great attitude (NO exceptions), tests are fair, if you pay attention in class (which is very easy since she is very entertaining and likeable) and do your homework you only have to review for her tests. She is also very involved in class excersizes which is very useful. You'll learn a lot.

Apparently last semester she gave too many A's, so she scaled down all our grades by two or three points on every test and added some harshly-graded writing assignments, even though we had just learned the language. Grading=really unfair. But she's a great lady and really caring and funny. I would recommend this class.

Giovanna is an amazing professor. Her teaching style is clear and helpful and she genuinely wants you to do well in her class. She made class fun and did a good job at using actual conversations and didn't only focus on the grammatical side of the language. Great class and great professor. I feel like I can already have a real Italian conversation.

Such a sweetheart- she's funny and so nice in class. It's been said here before, but it's not a hard class, so make sure you speak up in class and do well on quizzes because she's truly disappointed if you don't. Make sure you take her at least once!

Prof. DeAppolonia is an excellent teacher. She is very well organized and drills the language into your head by always speaking in Italian. Her tests and grading are fair, but do well because she gets angry at you (as a class) if you don't! I highly recommend her if you want to learn italian.
