Just an absolutely awful teacher. In his seminar "on thinking" he forces ideology down students' throats without encouraging them to think critically. When students raise legitimate questions about the text, he either philosophizes without answering the question, or pontificates about importance of the author of the text. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!

To cite a song: "You only get what you give." Easily the most interesting and compelling course and approach to literature I've ever encountered. He takes his course and his students very seriously, and has very high expectations. The flip side is that he's not above punishing those who don't work.
