Look no further. He is the best professor I've had at UDM. He's kind and approachable and makes class fun. He is a tough grader, but that's the only down fall. The material isn't hard, so if you study and come to class, you'll get a good grade. Simple. He is so much more than a professor. He is a true gem.

Its a really tough class if you don't like history. I barely passed. Tests are really difficult and there is too much reading. Also beware of pop quizzes

As a teacher he is very good. However you will have to do a lot of reading in order to pass the class. If you do all the reading and show up to class everyday it should be an easy class. Nothing to difficult just make sure to stay up to date on the readings.

As a double major I've had a diverse selection of professors here at UDM. Dr. Sumner is by far the best. I go out of my way to take his classes (Taken him three times, and will likely take him for the senior seminar). Strongly recommended for everyone. Really is an awesome guy and teacher.

He is OK! as a professor, he explains everything great! There is no way you leave that class with nothing acknowledged. I would not recommend him only because of his tests. If you omitted the smallest detail, he will take off a point or two. Did I say that his tests are written?

Comment:

Dr. Sumner is one of the best teachers at UDM.! Even if you are not a history major he pushes you to be the best you can be, he is ALWAYS willing to help! The class was very interesting, although more challenging than his 251 class. Be prepared to work! The books that we read and class discussion were very eye opening and test are all written.
