Comment:
He was there to answer question but for cis 150 the work is can be done independently as an online class. He didnt make you show up to class except for tests and turning in assignments. You can easily find resources online to give you answers for homework. work load may take a lot of time but the material is very easy.

He doesn't help you with CIS 150 at all. I emailed him several times throughout the year and he never once replied. He does not explain instructions and does not enter grades in blackboard until the very end of the semester. He makes this class very confusing and the quizzes and tests are very difficult.

Professor Hugh, nice guy, but absolutely no help and does not care about CIS 150. He encouraged us to NOT show up to class which in the beginning was awesome, but when it came down to asking questions by email, he didn't respond. He had no clue what he was teaching or even supposed to be he followed other professors guidelines... Take someone else

The class is not one that you can skip a lot and pass. But as long as you show up, you'll be fine. The material is easy enough, and the assignments are covered by the lectures. Nothing outstanding, but a good teacher nonetheless. Don't bother buying the textbook.

Comment:
Prof McGuire is the stereotypical boring professor. For two hours, he stands at his computer and goes over his notes in a fill-in-the-blank kind of format. One assignment due at the end of each week. Only tests are midterm and final. Not extremely helpful in office hours. Pretty much repeats what he says in class. Slightly above-average.

Comment:
Attendance is 3% of grade, so not necessary. Lectures are worthless because they are often off topic or unclear. Assignments are difficult, but put in enough hours and you can complete his busy work. Would not take him for any other class.

Lot of busy work. Didn't know the syllabus too well since he didn't create it and caused a bit of confusion. Nice guy, but he didn't teach me too much. Not difficult but I don't reccomend.

A very tough professor, he loves to assign A LOT of work. If you're willing to work, he's the right professor for you. He's pretty helpful, can also be condescending at times. The only issue is that his office hours are limited. He goes to class on time and leaves on time. So, you're lucky if you get help.

He is honestly a really nice guy. His lectures are extremely boring and not really necessary to attend (all of the quizzes can be taken with your book), plus during his lectures he rambles a bit. If you have a question he's quick to answer in person, but on email you have to get him at the right time. A lot of busy work required, but it's easy!

Mr. McGuire is AWESOME! I had to take this class twice and McGuire is the best. It is not an easy class but he helps so much and most labs are optional, but if you do go he is there helping with homework. If you need to take 261 take it with him.

Hugh is really knowledgeable about his subject, even the history. He also has a great balance between enthusiasm and patience. If you want to master programming, take his course, and he'll make you a pro. He's also very considerate and flexible when it comes to the needs of his students - he let me take a delayed midterm because I was sick!

I was nervous going into this class because of his ratings on this site but they couldn't have been more inaccurate. He is one of the most patient professors and the people who rated him so poorly clearly didn't attempt to attend office hours or ask for help because he has been so patient and willing to help me. This is now my favorite class.

This is not an easy class. Especially if you are just learning C++ programming like me. He doesn't always have the most clear communication, much because programming can be hard to explain at times. If you ask for help, he is very helpful through email or office hours. He knows the material very well and will work with you until you understand.

Very smart guy. Can whip up code examples on the fly in vi. Large volume of homework but some is just busy work. If you do the assignments you will KNOW the material. It's true that he's a slacker about grading assignments, but he's also relaxed about due dates. I would recommend him for more advanced classes.

I'm an avid worker, and the workload is just ridiculous. When he assigns something, be prepared to stare at it for 10 hours and never actually finish. Oh, and he assigns things every week, sooo. Unfortunately, he taught the only section this semester, but if you can avoid him, do so. Nice guy, AWFUL TEACHER.

Singular worst teacher of my 3 years at GVSU. 1.) He doesn't use Blackboard, instead sends grades in a very confusing, large text file spreadsheet via email. 2.) ALWAYS BUSY. Dn't expect to meet outside of class. 3.) Horribly late grader. Handed back our midterm exam while we were taking our final. Had no idea what our grade was going into final

He was the worst prof I have had in a long time. He did not teach, he just showed off with the program. He made little to no sense when he did try to explain. I went to his office hours for help in which he told me I was screwed. On my way out he said "Have fun Partying." He was very rude. When I emailed him for help he told me I should just drop.

Absolutely the worst professor. Forgets that this is an intro to C++ class and just expects us to program in the language he teaches nothing about. Gives ridiculously long homework every week that has nothing to do with his terribly unorganized, incomprehensible 'notes' that he puts on his awful website.

Worst professor on campus. no, the world. He lectures in a quiet mono-tonal voice so its hard to understand. He gives impossibly long homework. He never answers emails. Also, after I failed one of his exams after asking him for help and being turned away, he sent me an email worded to seem like he was mocking me.
