Comment:

Dr. Holmberg may be an expert in GRS, but you probably wouldn't know from seeing her in GRS 200... Her rambly lecture style almost leaves you more confused than just reading the textbook. Her lecture slides, which she puts online, are almost worst than skeleton notes, as they are mostly just headings and pictures she likes. Not bad, but not good.

Comment:

Holmberg absolutely knows her stuff and tries her hardest to pack as much information as possible in lectures. Unfortunately, due to the breadth of mythology, not all of it can be covered, so a lot of supplementary reading is necessary. She is friendly enough to clarify any questions, however, and her assignments aren't too overbearing.

Comment:

Holmberg, while a very knowledgeable prof, is a rambling lecturer. She isn't super organized in her retelling of the myths, and often starts new stories in the middle of others. Weekly online quizzes are mandatory but manageable, and there are only 2 in class essays (but she does expect a lot from them) so the work load isn't too bad.

This class was insanely boring and she could've cut down on half the material. She seems nice as a person and is funny but the lectures were disorganized and hard to follow.

She really is a great professor. I recommend this class if you're at all interested in literature. Greek and Roman studies is not my major and I had only taken 1 GRS course prior but this wasn't a problem thanks to her clear explanations. She is funny as well!

Dr. Holmberg is a wonderful lecturer. I look forward to attending her classes, and the workload is not difficult at all. I wonder at the other, poor ratings, because I would definitely take more classes from her. She has a very strong lecture, she knows what she is talking about, and it is easy to pay attention to her during lectures. Excellent!

She's fantastic! So amusing, as she used to teach a Sex & Love class you can imagine how entertaining she is teaching Mythology. She knows her stuff, has great lectures and always goes into long answers when you see her one on one, don't know what the other person was talking about here... She's great! And its a pretty easy class.

Professor Holmberg is a good speaker, but she lacks the skills necessary to be a good teacher. She is not helpful at all when you approach her one on one and does not take the time to fully listen to students concerns. If you enjoy being put down and humiliated in front of the class take her course.

Yes, she can be a difficult/marker, and sometimes goes off on tangents. But as long as you read the material, attend the classes and pay attention, you'll do fine. Enjoyable discussions, and not too hard to look at either. :)

University is not only an institution for blue bloods anymore. She makes learning excrutiating. Intimidation is not a learning tool.
