Comment:

Dr. Gutierrez-Kerns puts a lot of passion and heart into her teaching. However, she doesnt grade anything and seems to 100% put her own research/work ahead of her job of being a professor. The class was unnecessarily cumbersome not terribly hard to get an A, but definitely requires hard work. Relatively fair.

Jana is an awesome person who is passionate about her work. However she's very flighty and forgets to post homework and project criteria on CANVAS and doesn't realize it until the day that it is due. (luckily she wont grade it) SHE DOES NOT READ EMAILS!! Don't even try to send one. Other than that, as long as you talk in class, you'll get an A.

Comment:

Dr. Gutierrez is a good professor. She makes Hispanic lit about as interesting as possible. Her Spanish is easy to understand. Grade based on 2 tests, a final, presentation, paper, interview and a creative project. She's more than willing to help you whenever necessary! My only complaint is that she took FOREVER to post grades for assignments.

Jana is an EXCELLENT teacher but grades tough. My only B in my upper level spanish courses. She makes everything extremely interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed going to class. Lots of reading (it was a lit class) and projects. Make sure you stay on top of things and pay attention. Go to her office if you need help, she's always willing to help!!

Comment:

Sra. Gutierrez is awesome. The first few weeks scared me to death; she uses complex sentence structures and lots of vocabulary when she talks, and the syntax itself gets confusing. However, if you work hard, ask for help (she is VERY willing), and speak up in class, you will do well. Not an easy A, but doable with hard work. Love her!

She's awesome! I feel like everything came together after this class. She's the toughest teacher I've ever had. She gives a lot of homework. Don't get behind in this class! Be careful about tests..she doesn't go chapter by chapter. You HAVE to go to class. Good luck! :)

Very interesting, but since she's so passionate about her subject she tends to forget that you have other classes too. Assigns a TON of work. Unless you want to live and breathe the subject, don't take her.

very helpful teacher...but if you're looking for an easy class, i would think again...its not that hard but you do have to put in the work...you have about 6 or 7 papers during the course, and grades somewhat tough, but overall a pretty good teacher!

Jana was by far one of the best Spanish teacher I've ever had. She was incredibly helpful, and flexible. She made me want to speak spanish more, and without realizing it my abilities got better. I recommend her to anyone!! I'm taking her again in the fall

Her class was difficult but also my favorite. If you want to learn Spanish and learn to speak it better, I highly recommend you try to take her class. What you learn exceeds the difficulty. She's great! I'm trying to take her again.

I think that Jana is a terrible teacher. I had her for Spanish Composition, she took a very long time to get our papers back to us. Also she never was helpful with writing the assignments.Going to her class was not worth the time you had to put into it.

So nice and helpful. Makes the class interesting. She is very understanding. If you need an extension or extra help, she asks no questions and is very flexible.
