Comment:

Jessamyn is one of those professors you talk about once you graduate NYU. Your textbook is a series of novels taking place in NYC and your final project is a scavenger hunt throughout the city based on the authors' lives and books. She's such a joy to be around and she takes the time to discuss how politics affects what we're studying. Shes AMAZING

show up to every class, upload forum posts (one required before each class), take notes, and engage in discussion. She can probably tell if you haven't done the reading, so for the sake of the in-class discussions and the quality of the post, do the assigned reading (which are mostly dense materials). Also, she likes to call on people in class.

TAKE. THIS. CLASS. Jessamyn is so kind and her discussions are really interesting. The readings may be confusing at first, but always thoroughly discussed in class. Main homework is reading and forum posts (100-400 words ish), two 6 page essays and a scavenger hunt (which is so fun!) I want to take this again.

AMAZING teacher!!! Take her class if you can, she is the nicest person you will ever meet. She understands if you are shy, just let her know, cause class is discussion heavy. really really amazing teacher, amazing class. totally different than other liberal studies classes, she takes her time on each reading/movie so there isn't even that much assigned work. class is nearly always interesting and engaging, would 100% recommend.

Jessamyn is one of the most radically empathetic people I have ever met. I absolutely loved every piece she gave us to read. You have to go into this class ready to really do the reading and engage in class in order to get the most out of it, and I promise you will so regret it if you half ass it. If you have the opportunity to take from J TAKE IT.

Very nice and understanding professor! Participation, blog post every class, two essays, one group project (scavenger hunt) and one in class final. Turned a required GE class into an interesting and enjoyable one. Be sure to speak to her about any concerns you have. Easy B+/A-, but an A is definitely possible if you put in the work.

Jessamyn is the best! Her classes are discussion based, and no answer is ever wrong. She lets the class come up with their own conclusions and doesn't have an agenda-driven discussion. The topics were super relevant and really made me think about modern day life. Though she doesn't give a lot of feedback, her grading is very fair. Super nice too

This is a good course to be taken for people WHO LIKES TO SPEAK UP. I think Professor Hatcher is passionate in what she taught, she loves assigning blog post and loves discussion A LOT. So if you are a quiet member of class you probably will not get very good grade. Class discussion usually dominated by louder member in the class.

The sweetest, most passionate teacher. Her syllabus really intimidated me and I was preparing for the worst, a heavy and mundane workload, however her class discussions and lectures are engaging, her texts are interesting and as both a professor and person is so great, probably my favorite teacher to date.

Jessamyn is one of the most inspiring professors I have taken. Her materials are more than fascinating and she has been educated to teach such materials in the way the course is expected to be taught. She knows her materials, takes time for her students to truly understand, is open to all questions and is very clear. It was a privilege to have her!

Professor Hatcher is an amazing teacher. She tries really hard to get you interested in the novels and material. Easily the best CF class that I took. Just make sure to write a bit in the blog posts and you can later use them in your papers.

I'm not much for the "liberal" way of learning, but Jessamyn really makes it work. Didn't have a midterm or a final exam, just a couple of papers, which were pretty easy. She will encourage you to express yourself, and don't be shy to do so. She encourages different opinions and ideas and is very helpful if you go to Office Hours.

I would recommend her. She is a nice individual who cares about her students. She only gave one grade throughout the semester through so grading is a little unclear. However, I think she tries to give you the best final grade that she can. A lot of work for a class that not everyone has such a deep interest in. Page long post before each class.

Very insightful. It is hard to find a good cultural professor but she manages to keep the class interesting and has a genuine interest about how her students do. Not too much homework but very discussion-based while in class. Be prepared to participate.

Her class is so amazing in terms of discussion. Uses blogs as a way for the students to understand each other, and they help for essays. Loves participation and for students having a voice. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY, this isn't a class where she reads facts that you can read out of textbook. However, if you come, and do your part, youll be rewarded.

She's really an incredible teacher. Really interested in what you have to say. she can tell when you have no idea what you're talking about so read the material!! You get used to the blog posts and they can help with the papers and final which are not bad anyway. Chances are if you kept up with the discussions then you'll do fine.

Her class style is not really mine. she is a very nice person though, but definitely have favourite students. Interesting how she has only accepted her 2 favourite students as facebook friends. Also, if you take her class, you should be READY to TALK!!

Definitely loves what she does which makes the course more interesting even though I wasn't too into many of the readings on Modernity and whatnot. Pretty fair grader though. Also make sure you read before class because she loves calling on people. Her favorite thing to do is say "I have a (insert name here" feeling" and call you on the whole class
