Comment:
Prof. Morris comes to each class excited and makes you smile. But then you remember how she stops replying to emails about her disorganized assignments. and scattered Moodle page. Furthermore, she often comes to classes giving her life issues as an excuse for her disorganized Moodle page. Go to UMass for linguistic studies as recommende by profs

Joanna is an incredible professor. She was unapologetic, direct, and made the material interesting. She is strict on deadlines and expects a lot from students, but the work is worth it to experience her class. She will drop everything and help you however you need it. You need to be self-motivated to take her classes.

Comment:
Joanna is a great professor. Very clear explanations and high expectations. She's pretty intense and can be uptight about deadlines but taking a class with her will prepare anyone for more rigorous experience in other schools or labs. She cares a lot about helping other students and pursues her own research, which is a real tribute at Hampshire.

One of the best professors. You must show interest and do the work if you want to do well. Many do not like it because the courses she teaches are not so easy, and she expect more out of the student. Joanna Morris is an exceptional professor, and deserves more appreciation from students.

joanna is brilliant but has little patience with the tangents that hampshire students favor when they've read a book on the subject. she will indulge to an extent but she wants scientific analysis and empirical evidence which i found very refreshing. some students didn't understand that this is a science course and were consequently confused.

I took Intro to Experimental Psych with Joanna. She was unhelpful and a bad teacher. I withdrew from the course to cut my losses and save my time and energy for something that deserved it. I don't recommend taking a course with her and most of my friends who have had her agree.

I had Joanna for Language Acquisition. Unlike a lot of comments I see on here, she had the entire class engaged and enthusiastic. Debate was always lively and fascinating, and she is always salty and sarcastic. If you take her classes, SPEAK UP, and you'll be glad you did.

I took intro experimental psych and brain and cog I with Joanna. She is very good with assigning homework and keeping it paperless. My interest in neuro definitely grew after the classes :D

Worst class I took at Hampshire (Psychology of Language). Uninterested in student learning, focused mostly on what her own research covered. I learned nothing.

Her classes are good if you wanna go deeply into the subjects and concentrate alot. She knows ALOT and in my experience is willing to answer any simple question and meet with anyone almost anytime. Her lectures can be a little boring, but shes funny and has a ton of energy which makes up for that

Comment:
Joanna is basically a horrible teacher. I learned nothing in her class and she made the topic unbearably boring. She lectured purely from powerpoints and even graded our work which at Hampshire is not cool and really discouraged me as a student.overall i gave up at the class half way through and used it as a study period.

Joanna is the best professor Hampshire has. She was my Div II chair and on my Div III committee. She can be hard on her students, but you'll end up learning a lot from her because of it.

I can see how others found her confusing. However, if you're truly interested in the subject matter, and are willing to approach her outside of class to get help, she's one of the best CS professors around. She's supportive, knowldegeable, etc. I wouldn't recommend her to fufil a requirement, however.

I could hardly ever understand a word she said. I think it was a combination of her accent and speed. Miserable time. Her feedback is aweful and sometimes she's just plain mean.

Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had at Hampshire. She does not, and she cannot, teach. Helping students seemed to be beneath her. She insulted her students in front of other students and teachers. Not professional.

she's an awesome teacher but really scatterbrained, so not so hot on the committee. although i kept asking her about it, she turned in my div I retrospective at the last minute... the VERY last minute... but definitely knows her linguistics.

While she's upbeat and outgoing, it's hard to take her seriously.I didn't learn anything from her course because she didn't stick to the syllabus. She wrote me someone else's evaluation! I expected that a professor would at least take the time to refer to me by my correct name and not someone else.

Joanna, while somewhat nice, isn't a very good teacher. Her classes are confusing and they do not stay on topic. This means you can do the reading but still not understand anything that is going on. She also doesn't explain assignments very well but expects that you will do well on them.
