This guy knows his stuff. He can explain practically any question posed to him, and his tests are some of the best written tests I've ever had. They give many choices for answers, and require lots of reasoning. He plays music in his lab and really helps students when in lab with him. He has an odd sense of humor.

The best science teacher I've ever had. Period. It's not apparent at first, but Joe wants you to succeed, and he's not just there to assert his arrogance over you. He loves his job and will like you if you express interest. He made me wish I was a BCHM major!

Comment:

Simply a great professor, very intelligent and willing to help. He really takes pride in being able to help you understand the material. The class and labs are enjoyable too. The best science prof at Alma, imo. Plus hes got great taste in music too...nothing like titrating an acid, while listening to aerosmith and pink floyd.

Beckmann is by far one of the coolest professors at Alma. He's secretly a former hippie and occasionally sports a beard. His labs introduce you to what real research is like (and the whole lab is wired with classic rock-playing speakers). He only gets pissed when you don't remember important things you should already know.

He can come across as a little harsh at first, but put in the time and effort and get to know him. He is an awesome guy. Exams are tough, but he's always willing to help if you don't understand something. His beard is sweet too.
