Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. He truly cares about making quality directors and giving you all the information he can offer. It is not a kiss-up contest either, despite popular opinion. Do your work, pay attention, show up to class on time, and you'll do just fine. Attendance will KILL YOU if you're not careful.

I've never hated a class as much as I hate John Benzer's. I basically sit there looking at my phone for an hour waiting for the class to be over. Sure, you will make an A or B in the class as long as you go to class and regurgitate what he says WORD for WORD on the test..however everything is micromanaged and he doesn't let you think for yourself.

He may not have a personality that everyone agrees with. I thought he was nice at times and not very friendly at times. However, if you want to learn how to teach beginners how to play instruments as well as how to run a successful band program, his information is invaluable. His class demands a bit of memorization but no homework. Not hard.
