Most comments are pretty accurate. Very smart professor. Knows what he's talking about but his class is really hard to follow. Most of my classmates and I were lost everyday. However, it is an easy A... do homework and study for the midterm/final from the homework's multiple choice and you'll be good. Dont take this class if you want to understand

Hands down, one of THE finest professors I've had in my college career. Apply yourself in this course and you'll come away a better student. Be sure to talk to this guy after class, his knowledge about economics is inspiring - this dude is seriously smart. DePaul, and every student there, is lucky to have this guy around. A serious gem.

I felt lost every day in class because he spent all of class doing math on the board but didn't really explain what he was doing. What saved me is that he will go over any assignment with you before its do and edit it so you can get full points. He gives you problems and homework that prepare you really well for the midterm and he allows retakes.

Definitely a higher level teacher. I would only recommend to econ/stat majors. He is what I would imagine my dad would be like if he finished college. Berdell is an honest and lenient fellow.

Its so hard to pay attention in class because he bounces from one topic to another. Besides that, midterm/final are word for word from the homework along with an essay question and there is a seperate course paper due at the end of the quarter. Hes... fine.... but I just go to class for the attendance pts and work on homework

One of the better Econ professors that DePaul has. Final and midterm are basically given ahead of time, liberal attendance policy, and genuinely cares about your success. Lectures are interesting; ensures participation. Always willing to help and explain things. All around good dude.

One of those professors that overcomplicates a simple entry level class. He is smart but often rambles. Grades based on homework, midterm, paper, final, and some discussion posts. I would not take him again Micro was a lot easier with a different professor.

Professor Berdell's lectures can at times be a little confusing but if you ask him to stop and explain what he just said or slow down, you will get what he is saying. Also, it's a good idea to read the chapters before or after class. He requires a lot out of you but, if you're an econ major who wants to actually learn, take Professor Berdell.

Comment:
Professor Berdell's lectures are boring and he jumps into the subject matter with no background info. His test questions are directly off of the homework, he gives you a notecard for the exam, but theres an essay portion to the midterm and final that requires research to be done before. If you put in enough work, an A is attainable in the class.

I payed attention and none of the stuff I wrote down in my notes was on the midterm. The whole second half of the section I just did my homework in class and didn't pay attention. The class itself isnt hard, but he makes it confusing. You have to write a big paper at the end of the quarter. You get a notecard on the midterm/final which made it easy

His lectures made me so confused, he never really linked what he was talking about in the lectures to what we were studying for on the midterm and final. That's why I felt his lectures were useless, what he talked about in the lectures did not show up on the exam. The multiple choice was just the books randomly generated questions. He was okay...

In this class you have attendance, homework(online), short discussion posts on d2l (only 2), midterm, final paper, and final exam. The final paper was pretty long to get through but if you use your sources it's not bad, just long. Test are easy given that he gives you sample problems before the exam of what to expect, just study..

His lectures are very hard to follow but that's okay because the SI sessions for his class are SUPER helpful. If you're completely lost, go to the SI sessions!!!

DO NOT TAKE HIM. I'm a finance major and have close to a 4.0 and cannot handle this class. I am so mad I signed up with this teacher. He is unclear, boring and just an overall bad professor. I've tried to ask him questions and he brushes me off. Save your time, money and GPA.

A really knowledgeable professor. He knows a lot about economy, and therefore sometimes thinks student do too, even though it is a intro class. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. There is a midterm and a final, and a paper that is due the last day of class. The paper is, however, a lot of work so you should really start early.

Professor Berdell teaches 340 like a graduate course. Weekly readings of 100 pages; response questions; term and final exam papers on your choice of topics. You will be challenged in this class and you will learn so much. Papers are graded tough but fair. If you really love economics, Berdell is your man. Seek him out. One of our very best.

Great guy and very knowledgeable and passionate about econ. He is an academic and as such, his lectures are very confusing. There is a 5-10pg paper at the end that is very hard to write bc of his teaching style. All homework done on myeconlab with questions for midterm and final printed directly off the site.
