Comment:
Lectures are extremely unhelpful and have nothing to do with the homework. Class is entirely quest based and LMs usually didn't help on hw. Exams are exactly like the homework, but no drops and very little room for error. So if you don't screw up, it's very easy to get an A with memorizing hw. Final is worth 36% also. Worst prof I've had at UT.

Horrible professor. Would not take again at all. Just rambles on in class and doesn't explain anything at all. Basically been doing all the homework from google. Worst lecturer I've had.

The class is heavily based on online material, and although fairly thorough in some parts, Gilbert fails to elaborate on some material during the lectures. Additionally, some of the learning modules lack all the material to complete the homework, like a guided problem or procedures to solve problems. Plus: you'll learn how to apply linAlg to ECE.

Gilbert is one of the best math professors I had and I would definitely take him again if he was offered. The grades come from 4 multiple choice exams (3 mid + final) pulled straight from the easy quests he assigns weekly for homework. There are 3 exams plus a final, all of which are mc, and the hw is pretty straight forward.

I took him for the newer Matrices class for ECE (Spring 2017). Because it was new and Gilbert didn't have much of a guide to go off of, the class started off kind of clunky. He lectures pretty well, goes over time often, the class is quest based so you can read the LMs rather than a book. The exams were 11 question multiple choice which sucked.

During lectures, Dr. Gilbert shows the geometric reasoning behind the theorems and formulas, and why they work. He's a funny guy and loves math. To do well, go to class and use the online notes. There's homework each week, and during discussion, we go over practice problems and hard homework questions. To study for tests, practice the homework.

He's one of the best math teachers I've ever had, and I've had quite a few good ones. He breaks down concepts and teaches everything from fundamentals in class, he's great at explaining concepts during office hours, and the tests mirror the homework. And he's HILARIOUS. Also, he looks like could have played Flitwick in the Harry Potter movies.

Dr Gilbert, a hilarious British man, is the best math professor I've ever had. The textbook, which he wrote, is online via Quest, and it's clear and concise enough to learn the material from without ever going to class. The exams are basically taken straight from the weekly homework assignments. Great learning experience as well as an easy A!

Prof was nice, but I had a lot of trouble understanding his lectures, especially since it had been several years since my last math course. Sometimes he just said to re-read his learning modules if I asked for help, which was frustrating. He did care about students, I just did not like his teaching style. If you can do homework, exams will be easy

Best math class i've taken at UT, hands down. I didn't go to class very often because Prof. Gilbert's lecture style didn't suit me well, but his class is very well-organized. Weekly Quest homework can be challenging very occasionally, but his MC tests are lifted directly from the homework-I got As on every test. If you can, def take Gilbert.

I love Dr Gilbert! He is incredibly entertaining, and explains the material really well. We learned so much this semester, but the class was a lot easier than I expected. The tests are exactly like the homeworks. This was my favorite class!

Gilbert is a funny english man who kept me entertained. Class really wasnt too helpful except for when he did homework problems. TA sessions were much more important. Tests and quizzes are just like homework so study those. The first test is by far the hardest and the second test is the easiest. After making a 78 on the first test I still made an A

Awesome old brit. kept class interesting and fun. i failed my calc 408C class first time round so i obviously am not amazing at math but i was able to get an A in gilberts 408D class. Tests are just like homework so study the homeworks and you should do great. I definitely recommend him, one of the few good math prof. at UT

the reason his class is so hard is because he hardly ever does any examples. he spends his time talking of the applications of math in the real world, which is exciting, but doesnt help with hw/tests.

He seems approachable but when I went to him for guidance on my test, he was simply apathetic. I have mixed feelings toward Prof. Gilbert. He teaches pretty well in class, but he's not very clear about his grading policies and doesn't seem to care about his students much.
