he is a really sweet guy but not the best teacher. however, if you put in the time to study the lecture powerpoints, you can do well in the class. also, I don't recommend buying the entire textbook (only masteringbiology for hw) unless you need further clarification on something, because it is really expensive and not necessary

This class was unnecessarily hard, and I spent a significant amount of time studying for it. Lectures are very in depth and he expects to recall and be able to apply every single detail mentioned in a lecture on tests and quizzes. He goes really fast, and often uses stories or metaphors to explain things, which I found more confusing than helpful.

Batterton was a really nice guy but the class was pretty tough... If you don't study hard for the tests and quizzes you won't do very well at all, but if you DO study hard/understand topics it's very manageable. Biology is pretty hard on its own, but that will be the case for any professor. He's a sweet old guy though and he tries his best to help

Initially, I thought it was a terrible class, but if you study on your own by taking notes on the powerpoint AND using the textbook you will be fine. The second I started using the textbook I went from low B's on my exams to very high A's. I didn't go to class much because lecture was boring. A self-teaching course, but totally doable.

Lecture is so boring. He talks so softly you cant even hear whats going on. The tests and quizzes are very hard, and application based. The tests cover so much random info that doesnt even work together. Studying for 3 weeks wouldnt have helped me. Wouldnt recommend.

Lectures are really boring/ rushed through, he posts slides so I never took notes in class. Textbook helped connect concepts but restated things in lectures. Quizzes are straight forward but very specific in word choice. Tests are all application and challenging but you'll score high if you really study. Final wasn't that bad if you study hard.

Dr. Batterton is super nice and incredibly funny! Lectures can get boring, though. Exams are curved and pretty difficult. Final is 100 questions long and also difficult. He teaches basic chemistry very strangely, but he gets better afree teaching basics. Pretty rigorous course, but if you try, you'll do great (especially with such good TAs)!

Dr. Batterton is a very kind man who tried to make lectures a bit more interesting at times with demonstrations and fishing stories. However, this class was way too intense for an intro class--especially if you're coming in without AP bio level knowledge. Tests are HARD but there's a small curve and the final is a 100 questions exam. Good luck!

By far my toughest class last semester. Lectures get boring as the semester goes on, and way too much information is covered in them. He really does try his best to teach but getting an A won't be easy. The first two tests weren't bad but the last test and the final were extremely hard. There is a curve to help you out but be ready to study.

I took the first exam, and thought "wow" because of the level of difficulty it was. However, I realized my mistake of not studying enough, and began studying harder for the following two exams in which I did really well on. Before the final, I had an A-, and lots of motivation to get the A since I had been studying for weeks. The final sucked tho.

So idk why this guy has such bad ratings. I was scared going in but have been doing totally fine. Tests are very fair and you can get A's if you really apply yourself and learn the concepts. Him and his TA's really care and they are all really great.

He was alright. Pretty easy A if you actually put in the time and work. He can sometimes be a little boring with his lectures but he is really nice and approachable.

Every single detail discussed in class will appear on a test so lots of study time needed. That being said, I didn't think the course was as awful as everyone else. Test questions are straight from his powerpoints so it's just memorization. I'd recommend not to take it your freshmen year because you'll need good time management skills to do well.

I'll cut to the chase: BIO 311C/D are horribly taught at UT and there is no GREAT professor. This being said, Batterton's personality makes him worth taking and while his class is tough, it is very very possible to get an A.

A genuinely good guy, not the best teacher though. Rushes through slides even when it's obvious most of the class hasn't finished taking notes. Quizzes and tests are harder than they need to be with a lot of application stuff that wasn't effectively covered in class. I took him for non-science and i'd wager most of the class was unhappy with grade.

Batterton is a really sweet and caring guy. He offered extra credit, and honestly you won't fail this class if you put in the work. I had him for 309D The Human Body which is for non science majors. It was difficult in the sense that you definitely can't just review the slides the day before exam, but as long as you study you will be fine.

Hared class I took at UT. Pop quiz every other week , three exams and a final. Everyone failed the final it was a 100 question CUMULATIVE EXAM.... it was impossible. Horrible class, all exams were application questions like the MCAT. DO NOT TAKE, will not prepare you for his exams.

I took this class because it's required for my major - Biology. It was one of the hardest classes I've taken in my life. It was also super discouraging because I felt like I could never get the hang of how to study for his tests. He doesn't push reading the textbook at all, but make sure you read!! I wish I would've discovered this sooner.

There are three tests and a final in this class and there are quizzes every two weeks, all of which are pretty difficult and are heavily based on application. Dr. Batterton does normally curve the exams and then drops the lowest test and replaces it with the average of the three tests. The lectures can be boring but it is important to go to them.

This class was the hardest class I've ever taken and I had to drop it. He is the nicest man I've ever met but his class was extremely difficult unless youve taken AP Bio. Not a good entry level class, tons of info you're expected to know, and tests are extremely specific.
